If you want to have best advices about Liverpool, what's up on the program, and have chill nice time with hostel personal, also have coffee tea and bread and jam all day long, i really recommend this place. The building is a little old and we were a bit cold in the room, but other then that very cool and comfy place, a place to share, relax Also I really like independent hostels other then big concept hostels you can find everywhere same thing!!!
Kevin, the owner, is the best hostel operator in the world and has created a place that in the news has been called “The Love Hostel” with an accompanying article detailing how many travellers met their future spouse at this place, Kevin being best man at some of those weddings and invited to almost all of them. The ambiance and feeling of the place is one that can make you fall in love, with Liverpool, with someone else, with yourself, with the hostel, with anything. There is loads of space of common areas from the garden outside to the kitchen to the large basement and immediately you feel a sense of camaraderie with the people there. I first walked in in October 2022 around midnight and a British and Australian guy were there and they within a few minutes took me out for drinks, and paid for them, and we spent hours out. I booked two nights initially and then ended up extending to 6 or 7. Upon returning to England from America in 2024, I spent 12 nights my second go and almost cried as I left. Happily I was able to meet Kevin and his father in London at a pub for a few drinks before going back to the USA. To all those who complain about cleanliness, or to readers concerned about it, I will say with 18 days’ stay of experience, the place is not dirty. It is a house, and sometimes there is stuff lying around in spots that don’t interfere with a resident’s experience, and it’s not spick and span clean like the grounds of Wimbledon or a Hilton hotel but it is not dirty. I’m very excited to go back again and again and again. The owner’s father, whose name is also Kevin, is also the only living person who has seen The Beatles live, who is a tour guide of Liverpool and every so often he offers a 2 hour walking tour and goes to many sites The Beatles spent time at - John Lennon’s birth hospital, his art school, the first club The Beatles ever played at The Jacaranda, and of course, The Cavern Club. I took the tour my second stay and it was amazing! The whole place is just a treat and an arrangement that is very, very, very unique.
I decided to give this place a chance despite the mixed reviews and unfortunately had a terrible experience. The owner was welcoming and nice, but that’s about it. The house is absolutely run down, it smells and doesn’t look clean at all. But the real issue was the fact that this hostel has some “permanent” residents who don’t really care about respecting others, and it also takes in homeless people and puts them in whatever bed is available. I was woken up by screaming and cursing in the middle of the night, and saw one of the guests kicking anothers' bed violently. It felt extremely unsafe and I wasn’t able to go back to sleep. The morning wasn’t much better, they started talking loudly at around 6am, eating smelly foods inside the room and even turning on a hairdryer. It all felt like a fever dream, it was so bizarre. And to top it all off, the lockers are tiny I also didn’t receive a key but it didn’t really matter - because the door to the room didn’t lock either, so I didn’t even trust leaving my luggage. I had two nights booked but left early in the morning and didn’t return. Rooms: Terribly unkempt and smelly - nothing like the pictures posted. Safety: The main door is always open, the lock to my dorm didn’t work and there is no safe space for bags of belongings. It also allows questionable guests so it doesn’t feel safe at all.
The hostel is super welcoming, the staff is the best, the place is gorgeous. 24 hour breakfast and super well locatedRooms: 5/5
As one of the budget-friendliest accommodations in the area, it's hard to fault The Embassie. It's the oldest hostel in Liverpool, so it's steeped in history, and if the owner is around, he'll gladly tell you all about it! The communal kitchen is stocked with tea, coffee, cereals and jams, and breakfast is offered each morning. Though the place is a bit rustic, its sense of community is strong. From what I saw, many guests left feeling like friends!
I do lots of hostels and travel in lots of country but it's one of the most murky place I ever sleep! The first night I asking me if I not trying to find one other place. It's sure you will remember this hostel, it's just the place is very dirty not the bed and the tap of the bathroom but all the other place, and the staff is really unfriendly, one guy in my room save my stay! Lots of worker are in the hostel and no young adults 20-30 years old.
The staff are very warm and welcoming. We stayed in the double room which one very small and outdated. It wasn’t very clean. The door didn’t lock properly and the window didn’t shut. This made the room very cold. The bed was uncomfortable. The shower didn’t work. The toilet wasn’t the cleanest but not the worst I’ve seen. My friend got a shock off the light switch in the toilet! We didn’t end up staying all night due to a family emergency. We probably wouldn’t have slept much anyway due to feeling uncomfortable in the room. It’s a perfect place to stay if you need a place to crash or are a backpacker. I won’t be returning but it’s not an overall bad place. It’s just a very basic hostel.
The embassie is an epitome of what a hostel should be like. Fantastic hosts, a place full of history and people full of stories- staying here will only magnify your experience in Liverpool. You can see that the owners have put in their heart and soul into this place. This might not be the place for you if you are looking for luxury - however, it feels like a community of travellers from all over the world. Really does hold up to the sense of community. Kevin the owner is probably the best guide to tour the city with. Stories of the young beatles and the city of Liverpool as told by him will make you fall in love with the city. Highly recommended! P.s. free coffee, tea and breakfast all day. No second thoughts - Things only keep getting better. Genuinely surprised to see this place having bad reviews. Definitely coming back there to spend a few days soon.
Not one of the better hostels, that's for sure. I stayed here three nights and it was a lot more a night than it should be! The man who runs it was nice and gave me a few pounds a night discount which was very nice of him. But the water in the shower was cold and the bathrooms were not in good condition. The place had not been updated or well cleaned in years I think!
Definitely worth the money paid. A wonderful atmosphere, a common room with a TV is heated by firewood, there are tables in the yard where you can eat and a kitchen to prepare food. But a bit too much different brokenness everywhere, it's part of the atmosphere, but I'd rather remove it all. The staff is simply wonderful and kind.Rooms: 4/5
