Wife and I visited this weekend and sadly found they have permanently shut their kitchen to proper meals - just bar football snacks. just cannot believe this move, we always have a meal and a drink or two so this is no longer an option for us and likely many of the regulars who eat here too. disappointed in this
Not very clean front door used as a ashtray chairs ready for tip walk out
Smoking area was a bit dirty cigarette buds everywhere all over the floor, maybe have one more bartender at a time, he was good and attentive, but had to wait every time to get a beer as he was doing three things at a time! Overall experience was good though!
Absolutely terrible, they ran out of mixed grill, strawberries, corn on the cob and milk. My daughter went to the toilet and there was no toilet roll left, the staff did not appear fazed by this. The children's food portions were tiny. 1 girl was left struggling to serve alone whilst 2 other staff members sat chatting. Disgusting toilets and not what you would expect in a gastro pub.
I like the retreat, staff are friendly the beer is well kept, I've not eaten there but the food I've seen looks and smells good. Should really make the effort and go more often, just a bit strange walking past a pub to go to another.
Used to drink here as a teenager, was ok inside but very quiet so not an exciting atmosphere like it used to have. If you want to be served quick in a quiet pub would be a 5 star.
The male member of staff working behind the bar needs to get his manners checked and get a grip on his temper and grown-up! On returning a coffee that was COLD to the bar he got the hump my partner was able to stick his finger in it! The barman had what can only be described as a mini temper tantrum... not joking involving dropping spoon to the floor behind the bar and kicking it. After first moaning to my partner that the coffee was not cold. The mini show was watched in pure amazement by a few men standing at the bar.
Nice pub but let down, as is way too often the case, by dirty, smelly toilets. Just no need for it. Why do pub owners/management etc have such disrespect for their customers?
The staff are good and friendly, the food is well cooked too, but this place really does need a refit to be the great sports pub that it once was.
Food good value, staff pleasant environment quite interesting but why does the only beer they do have a sign for on the pump except for ipa actually currently be unavailable surely they could have one actual bitter ready to serve to customers... What is available is one ipa and one mild but no bitter at all... Well it is a pub it would be reasonable to have beer ready to serve to customers in a pub I think...
