Welcome to the Duke of Cornwall Hotel

There’s a journey of discovery to be taken when you visit The Duke. Since 1863 when it was built as Plymouth’s first luxury hotel through to the present day, the hotel has an intriguing history that is sure to capture your imagination. The style and generous proportions of the hotel evoke the grace of years gone by, while our commitment to excellent service provides all the modern facilities you would expect.

Resting in the heart of Britain’s Ocean City, the hotel is the ideal base from which to explore the rich and varied history of Plymouth or to journey further into the beautiful South West. From the dramatic scenery of Dartmoor to the historic Barbican, home of Plymouth Gin distillery, there are a wealth of sights to enjoy.

Based opposite Plymouth Pavilions and just a short walk to the Theatre Royal and the city centre make the Duke the perfect base for business and pleasure visitors alike.

Leaving the bustle of the city behind you as you enter The Duke of Cornwall Hotel you immediately get a feel for the hotel in the welcoming decor of the entrance hall, with the ornate plaster, wood panelled walls and impressive stone fireplace, setting the scene for what is to come. You are immediately drawn towards the main reception by the grandeur of the imposing central staircase.

Rest assured that The Duke will have a room suited to you. Individually decorated and furnished to the highest standard, each of our seventy two rooms reflect the luxuriant architecture of the hotel, discreetly blending comfort and elegance with modern technology.

The Duke offers a number of dining options from its award winning AA Rosette Restaurants, to the relaxed atmosphere of the Lounge Bar. For special occasions why not indulge in Tea at the Top – a unique experience to enjoy afternoon tea in our tower with your own butler.

We work hard to make sure every guest has a memorable stay; we hope to welcome you in the future.

Caters for private and corporate functions as well as casual meals and drinks. There are several function rooms as well a the public bar area. Good food and drink selection. Staff are polite and helpful. Located a few minutes walk from the city centre and the seafront

Dated (nicely older/lovely historic building) but comfortable. Really nice staff and very helpful. Car park is quite small but local parking is available. Enjoyed my stay.

I work in Plymouth quite a bit and generally stay here. The car park is quite small so when I get back around 6pm it is normally full bit it is just 2 pounds to park on the street over night. The breakfast here is excellent and the rooms are always very comfortable.

Visited as part of a pre-show deal and was impressed. Get there early for parking but thereafter we found a large and comfortable bar and then pleasant restaurant with large windows and giant chandelier. Food was very good (on set-menu) and all the staff were very courteous and helpful.

Friendly staff and a lovely large room. An impressive building and interior. Good breakfast and free parking. Very central. Accept that no double glazing in such a lovely building but room a bit noisy. We also had trouble turning off the fan in the bathroom.
