Popped into the Derwent Arms for a round of drinks. The wife said that there wasn’t any atmosphere. I detected approximately 78 percent nitrogen and 21 percent oxygen also small amounts of other gases, too, such as carbon dioxide, neon, and hydrogen. To be honest it’s been a lovely day and I wasn’t up for an argument.
Was recommended this pub for lunch, unfortunately our experience wasn’t so pleasant. Waited 50 minutes for two meals. One been a beef roast dinner and one been a pie and the trimmings. The beef dinner came with frozen veg which was tasteless, frozen Yorkshire puddings and dry stuffing, they missed the cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets that were ordered. The Yorkshire pudding was cold. I left feeling hungry, my partners pie was meant to come with peas, they didn’t come out with the meal but did come some 5 minutes later. Definitely wasn’t worth the £27 bill. However the two girls serving were lovely and very friendly. Lovely looking pub, such a shame the food was terrible.
Absolutely dreadful. We first visited just as the new owners were settling in. We felt immediately welcomed and food was lovely. However, on our second visit we were absolutely appalled by the difference. Rude staff. Waited way too long for food. Food on arrival was cold and rubbery. We won't ever be going back.
Dec 2019 review. We stopped in again with family for Sunday lunch the weekend after Christmas. Once we figured out what everyone wanted we had to go to the bar to order, no table service there. Unfortunately they only had turkey on for the roast dinner, but they were very accommodating with substituting a steak. We had a mixed array of pies and steaks and roast dinners, the overall consensus was that a lot of the food tasted a bit dry and rubbery, most likely microwaved or our of a bag. After dinner some of us decided to have dessert, they were out of vanilla ice cream so we had to go with chocolate for our chocolate cheesecake. The cheesecake was nothing to write home about, it was kind of warm which really surprised us as it is typically served fresh from the refrigerator. Others decided on the sticky toffee pudding and said that is was cold and they were expecting it to be much hotter. All in all I would say this wasn't our best experience at this pub as far as the food is concearned. The staff were very friendly and helpful, but the food was rather slow coming out and not all at the same time. The bathrooms were not in the best shape and I was informed the ladies was completely out of toilet roll. The gents just had paper napkins of some kind. ***old 5 star review from 2017*** We went here for lunch with family and even though they had the main dining area fully reserved, we were seated fairly fast over near the bar, the tables were pretty small and cramped but we managed. I ordered the giant Yorkshire pudding and sausage, my wife had the haddock and chips, my dad had a steak pie, and my mum had a giant Yorkshire pudding with beef. All food was top notch and everyone was thoroughly satisfied. The staff were all very polite and attentive but didn't hover. Great atmosphere, the place was empty when we arrived but buzzing by the time we left. Will be back next time we're in town.
Good pub for a drink or two outside heating is a bit naff due to it only runs for 2 minutes a pysh of the button, beer is ok not a great selection of ales but it isnt aiming at anyone but a younger clientele
Food was really lovely, had the mixed grill and beef brisket burger. Typical Friday night atmosphere for a pub. Love the fact that dogs are welcome. Toilets spotless Landlady I think she was landlady anyway was really friendly when we visited on 25th March; and the lad she was training was polite. However the staff member that delivered meals could do with improvements in the friendliness of their approach - meals were just dumped on table with no friendly comment of enjoy your meals. Other than that really happy.
Modern style country pub. Good spirit selection with friendly staff. Generally seems to have plenty of seating with a pool table and outdoor seating round the back. Bar food was decent, nice and hearty. Definitely recommend on a sunny day.
Lovely Pub fantastic during the day, best night life in malton but not the place for a quite night drink, weekdays ain't so bad.
Good meal well priced. Was in on Monday the 14th of March the lad working should receive a great pat on the back, nice freindly service. Whilst cleaning the pub he took the time to serve, check back on my lunch and no standing about. A credit to the pub!
Really bad experience here today 07/04/2022, ordered 2 kids meals-chicken nuggets off the small kids menu and hunters chicken from older kids menu, we also had scampi and chips with mushy peas and a southern fried chicken burger. ALL meals came on the same sized plate as the small kids plate I’m not joking, we were so surprised, there was about a tablespoons worth of mushy peas with the scampi… will not be going here again!
