Great day out for a few hours, lots to see and information to learn about. It can be quite busy & crowded in certain areas, so I would recommend visiting during quieter times to be able to take your time & see things properly. I noticed a lot of children & adults banging on the glass of some of the tanks, despite clear signs on the glass not to do it. It has a big car park but you do have to pay. You also get free entry on your next visit for a year, which is a great bonus.
It was a much better experience than I expected. The aquarium tanks and their contents are both amazing and fascinating. Very educational as well. The sharks are scary, and the penguins are cute. Only negative entry fees are slightly high. Although you get a years entry.
My 4 and 7 years old loved it so much!nnThey have some workshops going for the kids as well, which was very informative and enjoyable for the kids.nnThe cafe is big, but we packed our own picnic, I think towards the end we had some coffee from there.
I visited The Deep decades ago so it had to be a place to see during my few hours in Hull this time.nOn the day it took a while before the appeal of the place struck me. I'm more than a few years out of my twenties. When it did, it was with a great force. . You can see the results below.nBefore I reached the exhibition I pressed a penny coin with my choice of impression of The Deep. I took that photo whilst on the train out of Hull.nOne area that really caught my eye was the Lagoon of Light. The huge pool seen from various levels also appealed to me. At its lowest level I was very surprised and delighted to see a giant moray eel hiding in a rock. Sadly the quality of the images from that huge pool is not so great.nLate on it was tricky for me to find my way out, leading back to the third floor but I got there and a cafeteria was nearby. By that time the hot food was no longer available. A sandwich and a coffee were all I needed.nI could have done with something a lot stronger than coffee on my way home. I left The Deep shortly after 17.00 but didn't get back home till 23.10 after close to a 20 mile taxi ride to my door at someone else's expense.
An absolute gem.nnFirst of all the work that this place does for sea life is incredible. At the end of our visit we went into the engineering room to see how the aquarium was maintained and I was amazed. There is so much work that goes into this, and more and more every day it seems.nnFirst of all the staff were extremely helpful. We have an electric car and needed help setting the charger up and the gentleman at the desk actually came out and helped us.nnThere was no vegan food left at the cafe but no bother, I had chips instead.nnThe actual aquarium was incredible. Highly informative from the first life on earth to now.nnThe tunnel was the best part for me. I have never seen a shark before, and I actually teared up a little. Absolutely beautiful creatures.nnWe have a 12 month pass and will definitely be back.
