I checked in on a rainy, soggy, typical Stockport Sunday morning, so I am fairly happy the hotel provided shelter - but that's about it really. My room on the first floor was near the bathrooms and all the carpet in the lobby smelled damp. The damp smell hit you like a welcome note soon as you get on the first floor. The single room that I was in was more like half a room.I could barely squeeze my backside in never mind my 3 suitcases.Cooked breakfast was terrible as well - the scrambled eggs undercooked or the fried eggs smelling of overused oil. The staff were a positive. They tried to keep the naturally grubby rooms as clean as possible.Kudos to them. This "hotel" needs a revamp, moreso as they claim they are "a very busy hotel".35GBP for the hell's anus of a room that I got, they should be doing better.
This place is being refurbished room by room. Some rooms are so shabby you'll need a sense of humour! However, the place is spotlessly clean, the plumbing works and the staff are friendly and very helpful. The location is very handy for Stockport. Given the price of a room, I've given The Davenport four stars in spite of the décor. It's not the Hilton, but it's a lot cheaper. Why not five star? Well a few things could have been easily fixed up, such as hangars in the wardrobe and a quick lick of paint when removing unwanted fixtures from the wall. Also, breakfast finished earlier than advertised, which was annoying when I'd arrived in the early hours and felt justified sleeping in until 8am. If this happens to you, there are plenty of cafes and other hotels serving breakfast later if you turn left down the road. The majority of guests appeared to be people working in Stockport and staying there during the week. It's a good place for the business traveller, with 24-hour check-in. The conference and meeting rooms are in good order some parts are particularly smart, and the place has plenty character. The architecture is mock-Tudor at one end, merging in to Stalinist tower block at the other. It's fun. If you like glass and steel and marble, you'll be out of luck. Unfortunately I can't comment on the food, but people seemed happy.
you get what you pay for. Noisy rooms next to A6 and in need of updating. Staff nice and helpful, the decorator needs new glasses.
It used to have a really bad reputation but it's under new management. We went for a meal didn't stay at the hotel meal was great and the service was really good, thanks Niz. So worth a try now.
Attended a function in the upstairs room - everywhere very dated, 2 bar staff only and people were queuing out of the door just to get a drink!!! 45 mins just to get served!!! No wonder the place is closing down
In need of a face lift, but in general a nice little hotel with the most amazing friendly and very helpful staff, well worth the price, would definitely stay there again as long as the price stays around the same, food and drink not bad either.
Not bad, it's a bit run down but just been taken over by new management who have lots of good ideas
Downstairs room was a great size for a party. The was a damp smell in the air though.
A New management team recently taken over running the hotel who seem dedicated to improving services.
Had a good night sleep after being on the road all day. Nice bar area
