Simply amazing. Anyone who knows me knows my food standards are extremely high. This place didn't disappoint one bit. From the exceptional service to the decor to the music to the food it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Their chef is definitely one to watch and I'm sure if he had been based down south we would be seeing him on television and most likely with a Michelin star or two under his belt. Each element on our plates was matched perfectly and cooked to perfection. My daughter was thrilled with her vegetarian moussaka of butter beans and smoked aubergine. My steak was exceptional with a slight smokey flavour that complimented it perfectly. Don't even get me started on their chips which are cooked in goose fat. I ordered some of their wild garlic mash as I wanted to taste it and wow, it was superb. Easily the most enjoyable dining experience I have had in a while made all the better by excellent service. It was fairly priced for what you get though some may find it expensive. Personally I was very happy with our final bill as food and service at this level isn't cheap to maintain. The best food in Middlesbrough by a mile and one I can't wait to return to experience again and again.

The evening started out fab, as the (I'm assuming) manager took our order and recommended us drinks - which were fantastic. After a while of waiting, which we didn't mind, we both got a teacup full of an oily paste. I saw it on other tables and assumed it was a complimentary snack before the meal - still not sure what it was, but it tasted like it was mostly made of vinegar - I don't mind vinegar, but the ingredient ratios were definitely off in that one. Next thing we got was our steaks. We didn't get the starters that we both ordered, and on closer inspection of the main dish neither did we get any steak knives or sauce for the steak. After trying to catch a waitress for a good five minutes, we asked for the sauce, which was an either-or option on the menu (not something we requested on top of what was offered) and the waitress reacted as if we asked for something ridiculous and really hard for her to get. After finishing the meal we sat there for about 20 minutes to wave someone down to ask for the bill, but there was no one around to notice us, so we went to the bar to pay. The starters that we never got and were not going to pay for were not even on the final bill! Mind you, the manager acknowledged our choice of starters when we were ordering, so not sure what went wrong there. My partner was happy with the quality of the food, however my steak was full of white bits that are impossible to cut through without a steak knife which I didn't get. We were originally going to order three courses, but after the unfortunate experience with (non-existent) starters and then mains, we chose to go home without getting dessert.. a first for me. I'm not the one to complain about a lot of things in a restaurant, as I've worked in one myself and know how hard the job can be sometimes, but for the prices in The Curing House I was really disappointed to have so many things go wrong - especially since the meal was an anniversary celebration and was out of our usual price range. It could have been a one-off, as quite a few tables around us seemed to have returning customers, however I was really disappointed in this definitely overpriced, underwhelming evening, and can only recommend going on maybe a less busy night. The two staff on the floor (manager included) seemed to not have time for us at all, so we left without saying anything to try and salvage the rest of our evening.

Another great visit. Relaxed atmosphere, knowledgeable staff who can help you with the menu when choosing which cheeses and cured meats to have and the food is next level . It's great to have somewhere like this on our doorstep.
