Back in the 1976 Good Beer Guide this Boddington's pub noted the " Awesome view" of the Victorian railway viaduct. I thus called it "The Awesome View." The view remains. It became a real ale Mecca with a huge beer selection and beer festivals. Casta and I making first visit in a few years and not happy. Only three real ales now but the pub feels neglected. Did not like my " Crown Ale"...tasted stale. Very illiterative! The Landlord is maybe trying to resurrect the pub vibe? They have a pool table and large outdoor area to the rear with a music stage. Used to love this pub so very sad to see it like this.
Had a lovely afternoon here with friends Sunday afternoon and evening with Rob Yates and Oliver playing great Northern soul tunes. Friendly and accommodatung bar staff . Who even carried our drinks out for us. Magnificent views under the arches . Thank youService: 5/5
Tricky review for me to write based on a one off visit since the pub has been taken over & refurbished. The 'positives' cask beer range was from a bear town takeover & staff were great at offering opportunity to try each before selecting. The chosen beer was first rate & well kept. The pub was noticeably empty, which is a shame. I had been told about televisions in every room but these were all switched off at time of visit early Saturday evening.
Two good milds on for Camra mild magic mild promotionService: 4/5
Great pub, loads of atmosphere and history. Fab range of beers, gins and whisky's. Loads of different rooms to sit in. Lovely beer garden and amazing view up to the aquaduct would definitely recommend that you visit.
Tuesday 15th August 2023 We visited underneath stockport viaduct this extremely good real ale pub This pub is a fantastic real ale with 7 hand pumped ales on a proper locals pub somewhere that anywhere real ale drinkers want to drink in they must drink in when in Stockport should drink in Great, everyone is involved in Saturday 22nd June 2024 Again, this good real ale pub under the railway viaduct was revisited. This pub is a cmvictoriane unspoilt gem small rooms lovely bar and a lovely background music played. This real ale pub Today has got 4 handpumped real ales on I had the Osset silver king ales it was a grand pint
Used to be my favourite pub in Stockport and always busy. Only me in today and beer was awfulService: 5/5
Years since I've been in here but Friday night 8ish and about six people in. Two of the beers hadn't been delivered. Not like it used to be.Atmosphere: 2/5
This used to be such a lovely pub a few years ago - massive selection of real ales, open fire in each room, really cosy welcoming vibe. Popped in for the first time after the refurb and what's been done to it is little short of vandalism. Awful bright white lighting, sloppy garish white paint sloshed on all the walls and tacky TV screens, loud pop music blaring and no ales on offer when I visited despite 12 pumps on the bar. At least they've kept the old leather benches intact I suppose, but that's about it. Just awful. Historic pubs like the Crown need to be preserved better than this. What's happened to a historic local landmark is unforgivable.
Decent pint at a reasonable price in a clean pub with a sociable landlord.
