Ric likes the Boars Head. Great value as are pretty much all Sam Smiths pubs. About £3 a pint. The bitter has a very distinctive malt overtone. Been to this pub on the market many times. Great vibe. Both Jorvic and Ric went for the steak and ale pie at £10.75 lovely gravy. Crust a bit soft this time. Proper old time interior with multi rooms.
Spent a lovely afternoon with my brother and 3 sisters. Food was good, service was excellent. Love the no phone rule. We had a really good time in the relaxing atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.Food: 4/5
Visited for the first time with my hubby early yesterday evening, what a fantastic homely pub this is. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel really welcome by the bar staff, we enquired whether food was being served and they happily confirmed they did from 5pm. We ordered a couple of drinks initially before finding a nice room to the left side of the bar with a welcoming real fire before sitting down to take in the great atmosphere. We loved the fact there was no music or tech devices allowed just good old conversation. We sampled a couple of meals from the menu with such a varied selection on offer, I had the Steak & Ale pie, Mash, seasonal Vegetables with Gravy and hubby sampled the Chilli, Rice, Garlic Bread and a side order of Chips. The food was spot on proper homemade mash and Chips just like your mum used to make them, dessert was the Sticky Toffee Pudding and Apple Crumble, Custard with a huge jug of extra Custard. All I can say is 'The Boars Head', Stockport is an absolute gem of a place, keep doing what your doing thanks to all the ladies who served us during our visit we'll definately be back. This Samuel Smith is a proper traditional pub and like all pubs should be. They don't play music, don't allow phones, messages etc basically it's a pub where you can chat and not have the disturbance of modern day technology. It's a very very old pub but the ales. Ipa's and their selection of Sammy Smiths whiskies and port etc are amazing. I highly recommend visiting and soak in the atmosphere. Me and my mate spoke to the lovely landlady who was sadly finishing after being there for 13 years. It was a great pleasure to have met her and chatted and wish her all the very best. We will be back without a doubt. Well worth a visit if you want a pub that is traditional.
Just taken over by new owners who are fantastic! Sunday dinner was to die for and at a reasonable price. Will definitely be back againFood: 5/5
Asked for chips got mash. Paid for a pie, turns out they hadn't any, ordered lasagna no salad like advertised and wasn't offered the refund as it was £2 cheaperFood: 2/5
Good old fashioned pub, Very nice food, I got lasagne which was really nice, quiet atmosphere and technology free pub so no phones laptops etc. Which was nice for a change. Will be back to try more food as it was lovely.
I'm biased. I love the Boars Head I've been frequently the place since I was a teenager and now I live in Ireland I still make a point of going in the place when I return to my home town of Stockport. It's a nice traditional pub with a warm and friendly clientele with beers and spirits at very reasonable prices.
I've only been after enjoying foodie Friday in the market. But it's always been full with a nice atmosphere. Service at the bar is efficient. As with all Sam Smith's pubs, they only offer their own range of drinks, but the range covers most bases, so is likely to have something for most.Service: 3/5
Good old-fashioned boozer with decent pub grub, lovely beer and reasonably priced.
