Nice food, but they are very stingy with the vegetables - half a carrot, half a parsnip, four Brussels Sprouts and five halves of roast potatoes which were lovely, but left me wanting more - I always think of a Sunday roast as more of a loaded plate kind of affair. The very tender pork loin came with a lovely strip of crackling - the potatoes were very crispy and were accompanied by a very large Yorkshire pudding. Great gravy on the top. My friend's beef was a little bit tougher, but still went down well. No lamb option. At about £20 a main dish, it isn't cheap - I've had better at this price level, but it was enjoyable; I could have done with a bit more on the plate, that's all.
The crown is truly a magical place Beautiful outdoor seating area that feels like a.secret garden. Spacious and beautiful indoor area with a beautiful bar. Great friendly staff like Martha and delicious food.
Great menu, lovely roast on a Sunday and it’s always a pleasure to have a drink by the fire in the bar area. Perfect pub all year round. Make a reservation or get there early on a Sunday though, it’s busy!
Lovely interior, cozy fireplace, comfortable sofas and amazing food and wine. Spacious room for all your friends and excellent service. Will highly recommend.
I have been to the Crown for casual evening drinks while sitting outside in their nice garden a couple of times but never been there for lunchtime or dinner. I finally had a chance to book a table advisable because I tried to turn up in a couple of occasions and they were always full and had a fantastic dining experience! Food was fresh, tasty and presented beautifully, with great staff and excellent beer and wine selection. I am looking forward to going back
Decided to try the Crown, a semi-local, for a Sunday lunch as the reviews were really good. It's a lovely pub but the Sunday roast chicken was really disappointing - the chicken was dry, the gravy quite watery. Well below expectations unfortunately. The others in my party chose off the normal menu and were happy so perhaps it's just the roasts...
We went for dinner on Saturday evening, I did go in thinking it was going to be basic pub food but was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was how good the service was and how nice the decor was. The food was scrumptious,I had the crab cake to start & the pheasant breast for main both were excellent in taste & presentation. The staff were great, friendly & attentive. Everyone at my table had a great night, thank you we will be back soon.
Very nice food, and great service. Definitely a place I'd return to.
Best fish and chips I've had for a very long time. Crispy pale batter and great chips. Not so good choice of desserts, like many pubs. Too stodgy. Great location and large amount of comfortable dining spaces in several large and airy rooms. Would certainly return here.
I am a local and come here fairly regularly. On this occasion, a group of us came for dinner on a Friday night. The service was very slack, we had to pay in advance for our food and drink never happened before and we had booked a table so they had my contact details AND we'd eaten there the week before and hadn't had to pay in advance. The staff aren't well trained at all and we had to ask several times for our table to be cleared or for additional cutlery. One person was much more interested on checking their mobile phone. Also, they weren't doing table service where we were sitting but the previous week they did. On the plus side, I did enjoy my meal but some of my dining companions were not very impressed with their particularly the plaice. Finally, it would be nice if they changed the menu from time to time. Aside from the daily special it seems to have been the same menu for years but just renamed a couple of dishes. Such a pity because it has so much potential.
