We stopped here for some lunch on 17/08/25. The place looked nice and the outdoor seating are was pleasant with great views.nnI ordered a carvery, and everything looked and tasted like it had been sat there for hours and microwaved 10 times over. I have never sent a dinner back, but this was awful. I asked for them to replace it with scampi and chips. The scampi was nice, but the chips were shriveled but solid inside, and I couldn't eat it.nnAwful food and high prices. And sadly, every staff member look like they couldn't be bothered to smile. It was a rather depressing meal.
Stopped here after a walk round Hessle country park. Location is pretty good, great view of the Humber bridge and estuary, but that's about it. Outside tables are nice next to the water. But be warned, at low tide it stinks of rotten seaweed. The bar is nice, the food is terrible. My wife ordered the carvery, the potatoes, parsnips and carrots were all rock hard and inedible. Like they've been prepared the day before and them microwaved to death. My daughter ordered the kids tagliatelle, no flavour, watery sauce and rubbery pasta. There was one staff member was great female the rest looked like they'd lost the will to live. We won't be going back.
Title: Once a Gem, Now a DisappointmentnnMy overall Rating: nnI recently visited the Country Park Inn in Hessle, a venue that used to be a favourite of mine thanks to its fantastic location near the Humber Bridge and its once well-kept premises. Sadly, it’s now a shadow of its former self.nnWe dropped by on one of the hottest evenings of the year—right around the summer solstice—expecting a lively atmosphere and a bustling beer garden. Instead, the place was almost deserted. It was hard not to notice how tired and unloved the surroundings felt. The outdoor woodwork is in need of repair, and cigarette ends litter parts of the grounds. It gave the impression of a venue that’s no longer being properly cared for, though a thorough clean and some maintenance could go a long way.nnService didn’t lift the experience either. Staff appeared disinterested, and while polite enough, they lacked the warmth and attentiveness you’d expect—especially when you’re paying £5 a pint. At those prices, you anticipate a certain standard that simply wasn’t met.nnThe final blow? At 9:30pm, we were told the pub would be closing at 10. On a warm summer evening, this came as a surprise—what sort of pub shuts early when it could be enjoying one of the busiest nights of the year?nnThe location remains beautiful, but unless there’s a serious rethink about standards and service, I can’t see myself returning any time soon. A real shame.
Booked for Sunday lunch and was seated at a window with fabulous views of the estuary and bridge. Not busy on arrival and carvery was already out and serving. Decided to order from carvery as it looked good. Other food coming out from the kitchen looked good too. Main complaint was the lukewarm temperature of the food. We had an early lunch so all the food was fresh but expected with it sitting on top of a ban marie and under heat lamps, the food would be hot. All of us commented that the meal was disappointing because of this. The beef tasted very good despite this. Shame, as we went here for the 1st time, instead of navigating a very busy nearby chain pub that does carvery as well. Not sure we would be back as reading other reviews there are other comments about the food temperature. Maybe your serving equipment isn't working properly.
Reviewing the bar and restaurant only — we called in for snacks and a drink on a hot day. Onion rings and desserts. Food was good, if slightly pricey and the brownie was a bit small, but the lemon posset and strawberry dessert was great. Onion rings basic but tasty and a decent portion size. Very friendly service and the window tables have a good view over the estuary.
