I had another enjoyable meal today at Wetherspoon. As a vegetarian, I tend to stick to the same dish—and it never disappoints. The food was well-prepared, and as always, I paired it with a glass of Pinot. The venue itself is spacious with a relaxed atmosphere. I also appreciated the clean WC facilities—always a plus. Consistent, reliable, and good value.
There is a real 'wow' factor as you enter the first floor of the Corn Exchange. It is a huge barn of a place and was packed to the rafters early on Saturday market day lunchtime.nI perused the menu on the Wetherspoons app, only to discover that every single recently introduced Gourmet Burger had sold out. Ditto the new on the menu steak and ale pudding.nThe duty manager, who cleared my table, said 'they hadn't expected all the new items to sell out'.nSo I settled on an 8 ounce sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce and all the trimmings. With a bottle of alcohol free Stella, it was just £7.49. Remarkable value.nNot only that, the steak was cooked perfectly to the medium I had specified, the pepper sauce was really nice, the chips freshly cooked and both my drink and the food was on the table in the time I'd been to 'powder my nose'.nDon't know why I thought of that - it was my dear old mum's expression.nAnyway, despite the varied reviews for this branch of 'Spoons', I cannot fault it at all.nWell done to all concerned.
I was pleasantly surprised. My buffalo burger was done very nicely and was actually spicy.nLike other wetherspoons, it had quite a large menu, very well priced and is in a lovely building.
What a lovely old building. Couldn't believe it was a Spoons from the outside. The pub is upstairs and it's equally magnificent inside. Enjoyed a nice pint here and marvelled at the intricate details of the building.
Had to review my review again as I feel something has changed for the better. The quality of the food that's coming out of the kitchen has improved. The plates are not as cold as previously stated in my last review of the place. Staff are and have always been friendly and helpful and the only thing I can say is I do miss when someone used to come to my table and ask if everything was okay with the meal. The removal of this personal touch has probably been made from way up above but it was nice and at times important. Overall I think the establishment is working constantly to improve their standards and that deserves a few more stars.
