A quaint and charming pub full of history, fine food, and an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. Inside seating is limited, but there are several covered tables outside. While there are a few seats at the bar, like most places I’ve been this is my first time in Scotland., you don’t eat there. The bar area is for drinking. When you’re ready to eat, you sit at one of the tables, close enough to your neighbors to enjoy a conversation. I had two starters and highly recommend them both: the haggis croquettes, and the wings. And of course, a pint. The croquettes had all the earthy flavors you’d expect from haggis, and are quickly deep fried. The wings were unlike any I’ve had in the states. No Frank’s hot sauce here, just an unusual and flavorful dry rub, cooked to perfection. A woman at a neighboring table had both a gluten and dairy allergy, and they were able to accommodate her. Check this place out, you won’t regret it, and will leave with a full belly and great memories.
Excellent food for a pub. There was nownhere to sit inside but we decided to stay since it was Sunday at 7pm and hungry without any reservations elsewhere. The mushroom and herb soup special of the day was very good. The fish and chips was humongous and tasty, the salmon was crispy and had very tasty veggies. Lastly the Mac and cheese was good.
Walked here from nearby accommodations for a casual weeknight dinner plus a drink. Exceeded expectations! Their pork loin dinner special was spectacular. Wonderful sear on a juicy cut of pork, in a beautiful brown sauce. Each side veg was also done well and added to the flavors of the dish. Wow. Cullen skink was also delicious and rich.nnWe enjoyed the outside seating under a heat lamp and watched some football. Bartender and manager were friendly and patient. Nice peek at the river.
Not a fan of the chili, but I’m from Texas soo….nHusband liked the fish and our friends were big fans of the Mac and cheese.nHaggis was delightful.
Visited yesterday, was so glad we chose to eat here! The food was amazing! I had the best Mac and cheese I’d ever had with salmon and crayfish on the specials! I want to come back just for the mac and cheese! The service was also amazing and the two guys in there were really nice and welcoming. If I’m ever in Inverness again I will definitely return!
