Wonderful dining experience here! Soup of the day was amazing. Sea bass was delicious, battered zucchini flowers were out of the world! Lemon cake was lip smacking delicious and went perfectly with the tea! Highly recommended.
Passed by Sotheby’s this afternoon to see their Masters Week exhibition and wanted to stop at the cafe for tea with my mum and her friends. The cafe was basically empty, apart from a few tables with people that had been already served. 2 waitresses were working. I approached the eldest and asked if we could take a table. She was incredibly cold straight away and told me “I have other people to serve first. You have to wait before you can seat”. So I kindly pointed out we could take one of the free tables and that we were not in a rush. She replied with an even more rude attitude saying “it will be 10 minutes minimum”. She was so impolite, I just said ‘no worries, thank you’ and left. Needless to say, I didn’t get a reply. I don’t think this is how Sotheby’s wants to welcome potential clients. Why have a cafe inside the auction house if you are going to treat customers in such an appalling way? Not what I would expect from Sotheby’s. Sad sad times. The standards are sinking.
The Story Café at Sotherby's has excellent service and reasonable prices. A friendly meet-up place with plenty of natural daylight.Recommended dishes
Very good cafeteria with special art atmosphere
Rather small and cramped, but nicely fitted out. Service is of a high professional quality, but it’s not what you’d call welcoming, even when they’re uncrowded. Choices of teas is excellent, but latte coffees are much better elsewhere and nearby. The scrambled eggs for breakfast are beautifully cooked, yet the formulaic slices of toast don’t do them justice. Overall, it’s pretty pricey - round £35 all in - for scrambled eggs admittedly with mushrooms or smoked salmon and a hot drink for two of us.
We had fantastic service, Janine was so friendly, professional and polite . The food was delicious, looking forward to going again soonFood: 5/5
Excellent food in beautiful and original surroundingsFood: 5/5
A surprisingly good spot for your breakfast and at least an hour's worth of nob-watching thrown in as a bonus. Also pleasing is that the prices aren't as detached from the everyman's reach as the art is. The tenured waiting service is sometimes a little too relaxed for its own good.
Must try and desert? The best art can offer, and it's free, do itFood: 5/5
Just had the most unbelievable experience at the Southeby's cafe where I popped in for a working coffee. Horrid, unfriendly, curt and so very common. As the bastion of class ..self-professed ... this cafe should be shut down on the basis of the emotional health and safety of people who may walk in. Having been a client of Southebys as well as a collector and a member of almost all private members clubs in London.. this was the most nouveau..garish..inhospitable inauthentic... new money experience. If you're a footballer or a wag or a sheikh ... then its fine. If you have quiet wealth ... walk away , they won't know it. The ultimate 'lick up kick down' venue.
