The academy has a business and enterprise specialism and has local business partnerships.Paul Halcro is the principal of The Bulwell Academy and has been in teaching for more than 15 years having previously been deputy head at Thomas Telford School, one of the UK’s top performing schools.The multimillion-pound building, opened in 2010, has a modern design including a number of environmental sustainability features. On arrival at The Bulwell Academy students are confronted by a large, glass-fronted Enterprise Hub – a key design feature to emphasise the academy’s business and enterprise specialism. A central courtyard area is sheltered by a tented roofing system where rainwater is collected and used as ‘grey’ water to flush the toilets. Other schools in the group include the Madeley Academy, Sandwell Academy and Walsall Academy. The academies all work together to develop best practice and share knowledge. The students have the opportunity to regularly compete in inter-academy competitions throughout the year in a variety of sports and activities.
