A central courtyard area is sheltered by a tented roofing system where rainwater is collected and used as ‘grey’ water to flush the toilets. Another unusual feature is the roof area, which is 80 per cent covered in sedum – a moss-type plant – to help reduce incoming noise and minimise rain water run-off.StaffPrincipal: Paul HalcroSenior Vice Principal: Mr DerryDirector of Finance & Operations: Mark BlytonDirector of Business & Enterprise: Alison BinghamAcademy SponsorsAbout Edge EDGE is an independent education foundation.About Thomas Telford The Bulwell Academy joined the group of Thomas Telford Schools in 2012. My children have been studying in this school since last year after coming from Nepal. According to them, the education level of this school is much better than that of the other school . Also, apart from studies i have seen very good at sports, music, science, technology, and extracurricular activities. We hope to continue the same progress in the future. We sincerely thank the school and its entire management team and wish them progress. Thank you
There are some incredible staff that work with our children at this school. They go out of their way everyday to help them. Both of my children have send needs and the staff they have working with them are amazing. It's because of BA that both my children are getting a Education. I can't thank them enough for what they do.
Clearly most staff care more about collecting a wage than teaching/performing their role to the best of their ability. Science teacher constantly stating my son shouldn't have problems understanding the written tasks as she has Dyslexia and has no problems. Giving out warnings when studants are asking for help as they don't understand and says its because they aren't listening. Never hold themselves accountable as staff but expect parents to take their side constantly and if you argue the case in your child's favour you are unreasonable and arguementative. Wish I had never got involved with this school. The only impact they have had is to make my son want to give up on his future as he no longer believes he can achieve anything within Bulwell Academy and believes he will have no choice but to get a warehouse job, not a career in marine biology or forensic science. Staff also labelled my son a homaphobic bully over a telephonr call, stating they have fact checked this prior to me being informed of tge situation, only to find out my son was not involved at all. No punishment received, no comments from the school at all after the call. No apology to my son after I proved he was innocent. The student apparently being bullied is well known to our family as we have had a close relationship since nursery I felt the need to check on them to ensure they were ok. The child in question luckily came to the door in high spirits and didn't feel they were bullied in any way and the situation was blown up by the school not the children. The child actually wanted to be friends with my son as they had grew apart over the last couple of years. The Behaviour team are supposed to know how to de-escalate a situation but seem to go out their way to antagonise students and parents to trigger them into losing their tempers or becoming emotional so the school look either victimised. Not at all what you want from a school. Also they do not log attendance, point system or safeguarding issues correctly. My son was suspended from school, for reasons I didnt agree with, we were then receiving texts daily asking why he wasn't in school. I would call the school to ask why this was happening as they have forced me to accept suspension. Has SENCO needs and constantly being told support is in place to then prove it isn't. I repeatedly told them he has a reading age of 17 and doesn't need a reading pen he has issue understanding and process what he is reading. Requested a councillor in Nov 2022 after my son witnessed me have a seizure and he thought I was going to die. The external councillor i put inplace was told there were provissions in school for a councillor so she could no longer support. Aftwr numerous calls and meetings asking when the support would be inplace we fould out the school hadn't processed the request at the time in 2022 as promised and was only logged the following November 2023 and councillor was available within a fortnight this was after my son felt the concerns he was having tge previous year were no longer bothering him. Safeguarding issue: They 'lost' my son. He was actually with staff but know one knew where. He was not on school site at all and no consent to take my son out of school. They sent text asking us to inform them where he was??? They also take my son out of vital lessons to inform him he was detailed in a tiktok video, he wasn't already aware of, were a student is telling my son to go kill himself. No discussion with parents prior and not something he should have been made of during school time in my opinion. Would give minus points if I could. Some staff should clearly rethink carer choices. No patience or basic knowledge on how to deal with common learning difficulties within a class room setting
honestly terrible school, the new rules are ridiculous. You now get suspended for running around and having fun??? they act like we are prisoners. the teachers don't teach us anything, about 1/2 of the teachers left in the past few months and about 3/4 new teachers leave after a year or two. the food is vile, there has been so many reports on the food and they still serve horrid food. they don't help you with mental health problems at all, they never help you with work. the majority of students are failing their tests cause they never teach us anything.they hire either people who aren't smart, people who bully children or people who just don't know how to teach. only good teacher is Mr palmer.DO NOT LET YOUR KID COME HERE!
The school seems completely incompetent when it comes to teaching the children recently. The children seem to be spending more time at home than anywhere else this year already due to countless teachers strikes and not my child personally but they send children home over the most baffling things meaning more disruption to their learning. I honestly regret sending my child to this school.
The worst school ever if I’m being honest I’ve got jumped by year 8&9&10 girls and teachers didn’t do nothing I get suspended for running around now and u get ice for having gum in class it’s horrible the food is vile they ruin ur mental health I was crying cuz I nearly got jumped and the teachers shouted at me saying why I’m not in lesson that’s all they care about “go to ur lesson” even tho u learn nothing since I came in this school everything went horrible. DO NOT BRING YOUR KID HERE!!
school is genuinely horrible, water most likely has diseases in. new rules are ridiculous. all the teachers care about is "get to ur lessons now" and suspensions. u can't speak to any teachers because they have made it a rule saying that u can only speak to ur teachers in the minimum amount of free time that they give you. only good teachers are miss bexton, miss beresford & miss selfe. miss tiwari doesn't know how to teach she hardly knows the basic maths, i have reported her and my mum has reported her to so i don't know what's going to be put in place. they'll get 1-2 teachers for a fight but 25 teachers to walk around the courtyard before lesson going "get to your lesson!" surely that's health and safety am i not right? water is yellow, pipes clearly weren't fixed as it is i've seen all the posts on facebook parents have said the water has diseases. my friends had some water it was all foggy and tasted so bad that they nearly threw up. this school is basically a prison, we don't get to have any fun. apparently being upstairs or inside blocks during break time or lunch time affects teachers which is quite literally ridiculous. someone got suspended for it and i don't blame their mum if they came in school shouting at teachers. they have meetings scheduled for weeks and weeks because of how easy it is to get one. i have a past of truancy but that was because no teacher would help me or speak to me. all i'm asking for is a good school and teachers to actually speak to students instead of the daily 'get to your lesson'.
School just seemed to keep going downhill over the year if I am being honest. The safeguarding was absolutely ridiculous. Luckily I had a good teacher to help me through an issue even-though he had to email them about 6 times for me to actually be noticed and heard. They also ignored major issues and liked to victim-blame on the majority of occasions from personal experience and outsider knowledge. I felt targeted by a certain teacher who was meant to assist with any issues that occured, from year 7 through to year 11 he never believed anything I had to say and constantly went against me. The literacy levels and numerical skills are also appalling and they made no effort to actually help those who needed further guidance. I knew at-least 5 people who could not read a clock since this school never actually taught them how since in their eyes it most likely wasn’t a priority. Black history month was also a day, nothing else. Important events such as lgbtqia+ month and other things were brushed over and ignored as-well. Overall, I did manage to pass all of my gcses and did have a decent overall experiment but would not recommend sending your kids there.
Communication between staff is shocking my daughter got into trouble for wearing an item of green clothing along with the rest of her uniform for wear it green for mental health on Friday as the school website indicated they could switch one item of uniform for something green so my daughter who already has anxiety about school has suffered yet another setback due to the lack of communication between staff
ive been going to this school for nearly 4 years now and mate absolutely awful like you cant name a school worse than this school all they care about is the students learning ive seen students going through stuff and having a hard time and even the teachers know it and they dont do anything abt it they always act like they care but they dont and i nearly got suspended for not having blazer on this school is mental they hardly have any teachers they all have left and all the teachers are supplys i hope this school shuts down
