We visited yesterday for Sunday dinner, me and my mum.nnStarters: We had the fried brie and the scotch egg. Both were tasty and enjoyable, although they weren’t particularly hot when they arrived.nnSunday dinner: Overall it was okay, but not the best. One big positive: the roast beef was cooked well and they were very generous, three big slices, not stingy at all. The downside is the beef slices were so thick they were very hard to cut, especially with the very blunt knives provided.nnEverything was served inside a large Yorkshire pudding, but it was very soggy, while the crust was overly crunchy/hard. The roast potatoes were huge but not crispy, and the inside was quite dry. Mash was fine. The carrots were undercooked almost raw. There was also a lot of shredded red cabbage on the plate, which made the whole dinner taste a bit vinegary—it felt more like something you’d expect with a Christmas dinner than a Sunday roast. Sprouts were cooked fine.nnGravy & service: The gravy itself was really nice, but there wasn’t much on the dinner and it felt dry. My mum asked for extra gravy, but it didn’t arrive and we had to ask again. Also, nobody came over after the food arrived to check everything was okay, and after we finished we were left sitting with plates for 10–15 minutes without anyone clearing them. In the end we had to go up to pay, and no one asked how the meal was, which was a shame as these issues could’ve been sorted quickly at the time.nnThe staff were polite and pleasant, but overall the service wasn’t very attentive, and the roast just needs a few improvements. I wouldn’t rush back for Sunday dinner, as I think we could honestly make a better one at home.
We hosted my sister’s Baby Shower here last week.nFrom the initial planning right through to the end the service and friendliness of the staff was exceptional.nWe hired the private room at the back which was cosy, beautiful, clean and plenty of space.nThe food was beautifully presented and tasted lovely with a wide selection. X
Pictures added were what was served and what was left! Instant mash! Meat over cooked. Vegetables not cooked enough! Gravy wasn't from meat, was instant..and altogether an awful meal! Frozen yorkshire puddins no one expects this! I get everything can't be always perfect at the right time all the time but everything been either under done or over done is very disappointing and shouldnt be expected from this restuarant.... me and my partner will denever be returning!
A little disappointed with our visit this weekend. Whilst the food was presented well and service was great the roast dinner was quite poor.nnThe veg was undercooked and still quite hard, the potatoes too well done and the meat really fatty and not easy to finish so most of it was left.nnThey did take the drinks off the bill as a gesture which i do appreciate but doesn't really feel enough given that it was the food itself which was an issue.
The Brownlee Arms is a great place for food or a drink.nWe went in on Boxing Day and were spoilt for choice with a great menu.nPrices are reasonable and the portion sizes are generous.nFood is always cooked fresh and well done.nAll the favourites are there and each with a twist to make them extra special.nWe had the roast turkey and salmon fillet and both were excellently cooked with a good amount of vegetables to go with them.nIt is recommended to book for a meal as they are always busy.nTreat yourself or a loved one and have a great time.
