The British Library is the national library of the United Kingdom and one of the world's greatest libraries. We hold over 13 million books, 920,000 journal and newspaper titles, 57 million patents and 3 million sound recordings. Open to everyone, the Library offers events, temporary exhibitions and a Treasures Gallery that displays over 200 items, including Magna Carta, a Gutenberg Bible and lyrics by The Beatles.

A very visitor-friendly library, where even without a library card, visitors can explore and study inside. The library offers comprehensive features catering to various needs such as studying, shopping, and community gatherings for discussions. There are specific areas for small business training and mutual assistance, offering industry studies, skill swaps, and showcasing products from successful enterprises. Additionally, the library boasts an impressive book wall and a meaningful stamp exhibition area. Worth to go!
Only reviewing the exhibitions experience as that's why we visited.nnThe Treasures gallery is jaw dropping. Whether you're looking for something in particular or just wandering around, you'll find books, poems, art prints, etc. that are incredibly historic, inspiring, and beautiful. Mozart compositions around the corner from Da Vinci note books, ancient Chinese poetry across from a Guttenberg Bible. Michelangelo love poetry, a 2000 year old Egyptian homework book, Javanese calendar art, you could spend hours in just one room. I will knock down a star here because they've done very little for children to enjoy. The material here presents a huge opportunity for interactive displays that kids would love the Burrell Collection in Glasgow is a good example but there's very little to keep their attention. Considering the value of instilling a love for books and reading in kids, this seems like a big miss.nnOur kids actually really liked the Philatelic collection. It was fun for them to search for countries they know about and slide out the displays to see the stamps. Another place where you could spend hours if you're interested in that kind of thing.nnThe gift shop is top tier. I ended up adding about 20-30 books from their selection to my wish list. They also have a great selection of simple souvenirs for very reasonable prices. The leather bookmark I got for £2.50 is my new favourite and the kids found some fun wee notebooks as well.nnI will agree with other reviewers that the front of house could be friendlier and more helpful. Frowns all around when we entered and that seems to be pretty regular.
Great place to access many books from around the world. There are numerous exhibitions on display with some paid and some free. Access to reading room is for paid members only and we managed to find some seating spaces in the restaurant for other diners as we brought lunch from outside.nnWith ½ term they had the family station opened 11am-3pm and there’s a buggy park at the entrance with baby changing facilities on most floors if you’re lucky to find the lift it’s easy to get around.
An incredible building in the heart of London, near King’s Cross and Euston.nThe building is stunning from the stairwells to the incredible books, exhibitions and more!nnIt’s a space where you can relax, take a book, do some with or explore the building and all it has to offer. There is a cafe and shops plus other rooms available.nnIf you’re in London it’s a must see for perusing or doing some work.
The British library is truly remarkable. A massive site filled with books. We visited for the Fantasy event and while it was overpriced it was beyond beautiful for any book fan. The library exhibition was stunning and had some interactive parts. A lovely day out. The library itself is free to visit, the events I would book in advance and they have an activity book for children to keep them entertained
