The Book Club

About

The Book Club offers a cultural revolution to the East end’s social scene.

Story

The Book Club fuses lively, creative events and late night drinking seven days a week with an alternative menu of brain-teasing and mind-expanding thought for food. Two spacious floors of a former Victorian warehouse on Leonard Street have been kitted out for eating, drinking, thinking, meeting and dancing.

The Book Club presents an eclectic ongoing programme of events and social activities in art, music, film, fashion, philosophy, design, science, and the odd spot of craft. The line-up includes special screenings and cross platform club nights showcasing new creative talent through to informal evening classes and talks by a host of eclectic and interesting thinkers.
The Book Club is a Mothership Group venue.

place was pretty cool however extremely loud. had a great time last night being served by Joao being both a great bar tender and small-talk-companion Julie was a killer host with her fluffy bucket hat sorting out any and all problems that arose during my time at the book club not sure of the man’s name but whoever was also working in kitchen was great sorting out any mistakes that arose with food, even if they were mine! would recommend, the staff were all more than just friendly - you feel like you’re talking to a real human and not a customer service bot security was also very present making sure to make the place both feel and look secure for its customers in short, 10/10 experience and will recommend to friends
Yo this place is dope for real. One of the coolest bars we went to in London. The DJ was incredible spinning really cool mellow vibes within the realms of neo soul and hip hop and man did he dig deep. This is not just some run of the mill spot. And the pizza is so delicious it's not even fathomable in a place so far north of Italy. I'm serious this is a place you need to hang out in. Have you a Neck Oil maybe.
The bar service was amazing, but it all got ruined with the bouncers the bold one the one with braids. My friend left for two minutes to grab something from his car in front of the club and was not allowed back in. He had a stamp! Paid for the entrance! And was declined entrance again! Prices for drink does not match advertisement and entrance fees does not match either! Rip off. Don't go. Tiny space and very hot.
The vibe was nice, the venue itself is very pretty and the music was good - they also serve food up to a certain time. However, the entry fee on the day we went was £10 and a double vodka coke was £10.50, so the drinks and entry are quite standard for London. My experience with the bouncers was positive at first although I've seen others reviewing that they were not so lucky. Later in the evening, my friend wasn't let back in even though his wrist was stamped and our girl friends were let back in - there seems to be some kind of selective entry after a certain time. There were some people in the club who were very clearly there to start a fight - kept intentionally bumping in to people and then getting angry, so the place can attract a bit of a weird crowd. Otherwise, the club in itself was pretty cool!
Fun from the off. We did the bottomless brunch. The Queens were both wonderful hosts Justine and Dylan. We had a thoroughly great time with good food, generous free flow, fun games and excellent tunes. Staff helping with food and drinks WERE BRILLIANT. My only slight reservation would be that getting your own drinks at the end of the brunch was rather painful and had to wait around 30 minutes they said they were busy… I personally didn’t think so and think they missed a ticket here as appeared to not prepared, but didn’t spoil a brilliant afternoon.
I went to a the Afrolicious event on a Friday. It was my first time going to the event. We had a great night, the music was great, it was a nice friendly crowd. I would definitely go again and I’m looking out for the next event there!Service: 5/5
Can't beat the £5 pint and pizzas before 8pm on week days. But Guinness very hit and miss depending on bar staff.Food: 4/5
I used this spot to network with a potential vendor and get some work done. I love the vibe of this place. There's plenty of seating that comfortable. It's also a dynamic space too that has a good mix of play and work which I like. The food is hearty and filling at the right price. This is a great place to meet friend and socialize or get some work done. It depends on what time of the day you show up.
Very good breakfast strictly 5!, good menu, nice place & kind service. Also suitable for big groups. The cappuccino was....far from our standard, not tasty, but the gladly gave us a refund with a smile. We find it great attitude & service.
DJ needs to update his playlist. The songs were good but it’s the same playlist from 2015 - 2018. Didn’t hear a single song released post covid. The songs weren’t bad at all but it did feel like being in a time warp. *Could have been a 1 off DJ because the last time white party event it was better.*Service: 3/5
