Expensive on the door - nothing inside. This place is for young people and perhaps immature students who fail their courses. I would advise not going here if you are over 25. Very young crowd, not friendly, its a real mess in there - I don't mean it is dirty, I just mean there are two floors of different music. It is dark, there is a weird unwelcoming smoking garden - don't you dare catch another persons eye or even try to speak to a stranger, because that is TOTALLY UNCOOL MAN! If you want to see the worst of Edinburgh, go to Bongo and then have a walk along the Cowgate - it is the place where they heard the cattle into dingy places, with horrible drinks and sloppy service. The word for every place on the Cowgate is 'dump'. If you are visiting Edinburgh, please look for a better place to drink or party after bars shut at 0100 ...there are much nicer places than this, this is for kids...or should I say kids who have no expectations, and just follow the heard.

This place is great, obviously it depends what music you're into, and which night you're at. The first half of the night it's usually dead, so a good time to go if you want to throw some crazy shapes, second half of the night it gets pretty packed.

If you like cheese and chart - go somewhere else. If you like super cheap drink and buying Grey Goose by the bottle - go somewhere else. If you like toilet attendents, VIP tables and plastic people who know nothing about music - go somewhere else. But, if you want to hear true underground, roots music, with friendly staff who are on the same level as yourself, surrounding yourself with people who know a thing or two about music and culture, then the Bongo is place to go. Not too big but not too small. Great soundsystem and a very chilled vibe. One of the last independent venues in town! Support your scene.
