Very disappointed. Husband phoned to book table, it was explained that 2pm was available as a large party was also in on day booked. Arrived to meet old friends for lunch to be told only bar snacks. Then coffee machine broken so no coffee. Yes we could if gone to another eatery but we had traveled 2 hours and so did our friends. Staff where the',usual' apologitc dialogue but some how didn't seem sincere. A complimentary drink would of been nice.

Arrived at 7.00pm, so at least we kept our part of the bargain, (and I can assure you this meal is no bargain). We where shown to our table. Drinks order was placed, 20 minutes elapsed "no drinks appeared " I attracted the attention of one waitress, drinks were served.  Another 20 minutes went by ,again I had to attract the waitresses attention, starter then arrived. My wife doesn't have a starter as she likes to leave room for a pudding, so she hadn't had anything to eat for forty minutes. But wait,  No main course appeared for another 35 minutes, after having to again attract one of only two waitresses attention. My wife is a placid soul who would put up with anything to avoid confrontation, so I was trying to stay claim. Inside my blood was starting to boil. Main course then arrived, my main meal I have to admit was very good,  But my wifes rump steak, of which when ordered was asked to be medium to well done ,came to the table bleeding rare.  Or should I say rare and still bleeding. Sorry blood "MINE "was reaching boiling point by now. Wife again told me not to complain but this was the last straw. I called the waitress to our table, she apologised, so did my wife!!! Apparently they were short staffed due to illness.  Oh that's alright then, it must be our fault for causing them to much work. "I was being sarcastic then if you hadn't realised". Rump steak taken home for collie dog  (he didn't complain) On to deserts  (wife's favourite part of the meal) She ordered treacle tart with ice cream, after again tracking down a waitress she was brought sticky toffee pudding, this she did ask to be changed. Don't mess with my wife's pudding. I had bread and butter pudding and custard , COLD yes stone cold. Blood boiling point now reached, having to sit for another ten minutes before even seeing a waitress I informed her of the problem and stated I was not expecting to pay for my cold desert.  And PLEASE PLEASE just bring me the bill. Fifteen minutes later the bill arrived. I asked my wife at what point did we have the wine and the prawns, WRONG bill. Please understand we are not people who like to complain. This is the first review I have ever written. NEVER AGAIN. The Black Boy of Milton for us.

Excellent Sunday lunch. Generous portions and friendly staff in a classic country pub setting.

Lovely location and great garden to sit out in the sun. The food was great and most of it was reasonably priced. Not enough staff in for the day though so service was quite slow
