My wife, our small dog, and I stayed just one night at The Bear Hotel—but honestly, it left a lasting impression.nnFrom the moment we arrived, we felt completely welcomed. The staff were genuinely friendly and made us feel right at home—and they were just as lovely with our dog, which meant a lot to us. It’s not always easy to find a place that’s truly dog-friendly, but The Bear really is.nnThe building itself is full of charm—centuries-old, with all the character you’d hope for in a historic coaching inn. Our room was cosy, clean, and peaceful—perfect for a relaxing night away. We had dinner in the bar area Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant and were really impressed. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was warm and inviting.nnThe only small downside was the WiFi—it was a bit hit-and-miss—but honestly, it was kind of nice to unplug for a bit and just enjoy the slower pace.nnEven though we were only there for a night, we left feeling like we’d had a proper break. We’re already talking about coming back for a longer stay. If you’re passing through Crickhowell or looking for a charming escape with great food and a truly welcoming feel—for both you and your dog—The Bear is a fantastic choice.
My boyfriend and I stumbled upon The Bear Inn after being unsure where to eat when staying in Crickhowell for the first time. We had the Beef Brisket and Burger on the first night and loved it so much we had to return! We had the Brisket again and the pie this time. We also tried their sticky toffee pudding - best we’ve had in ages!nnFood was incredible, good value for money and staff were excellent. Would visit again just to eat their amazing food!
Our group had a wonderful 5 night stay at the Bear and were all impressed by the comfort and professionalism of the staff and the consistent quality of the food and service! Well located in the town it is easy to get around and to access great walks with stunning scenery. We would like to come back!
Fantastic service and good food. The hotel was a great spot for a long weekend exploring the Brecon Beacons. They were also very welcoming to our dog. We would stay again.nnThe only downside was the noise around the rooms. The walls are quite thin and the kitchen backs directly onto the rooms. That said, things settled by 9pm and things were generally peaceful from then on!
Rude staff, disappointed with the way we were spoken to about having to move tables, did not assist in accommodating us elsewhere, we were made to feel unwelcome. We moved to the nearby Bridge End Inn and we had a much friendlier experience as you should expect from a nice pub. Would not come back or recommend.
