The Barley Sheaf at Gorran

About

This tastefully refurbished village pub serves fine Cornish ales & delicious locally sourced food. Regular live music events and weekly quiz night (Tues)

Story

In 1837 local farmer William Kendall was so badly behaved that he managed to get himself banned from all the pubs in the Gorran area!

However, to solve his predicament and to quench his daily thirst Mr Kendall decided to build his very own pub:

"The Barley Sheaf at Gorran"

The Barley Sheaf was never sold by the Kendall family and was recently restored by his Great Great Great Grandson; Tom White, and wife Anne-Marie.

Tastefully refurbished, family and dog friendly. A "Freehouse" Specialising in real ales and locally sourced quality food. Sunday lunch a speciality - booking advised. Also fish & chips available to take away.

Excellent fish and chips for the adults, the best I've had in a while, and the boys (3 and 8) enjoyed their steak. Good atmosphere with tourists and locals mixing. Good beer and cider. Attentive staff. Would recommend to anyone.

Not as good as it used to be. It's more of a restaurant than a pub, and has lost the homely feeling that it had.

Typical village pub - not quaint but functional. The beer is well kept. Food not always available at lunchtime and past experience of fisn and chips not good. However this was probably an unfortunate occurance and the Christmas menu looks great! We may well give it a go.

Sadly disappointed. The menu was different to that advertised. Took over an hour to arrive and tasted bland and uninteresting. Was overcharged for drinks we didn't have. Will not be going back.

Bland food, we had pork medallions in a cider sauce and sole stuffed with prawns. Both dishes were flavourless and the sole didn't come with any sauce which made it dry and tasteless. For dessert we had pavlova with ice cream, the pavlova was soggy and rubbery not how we expect it to be which is crisp and crumbly. And three scoops of different ice cream which was fine except I only asked for two scoops. Coffee to finish was weak and overbrewed. Then we were over charged for drinks.😞
