A real ale pub in the harbour town of Porthmadog, and home of Purple Moose Brewery beers.

Story

The Australia, Porthmadog, is the brewery tap for the town's very own Purple Moose Brewery. We showcase the brewery's excellent range of cask, keg and bottled beers, as well as offering delicious home-cooked food.

We serve freshly prepared meals throughout the year, Wednesday to Sunday; 12:00pm-2:30pm and 5:30pm-8:30pm.

My favourite pub in Porthmadog. Food portions are great, beer is amazing and its not a bank breaker. Can't fault it
Nice place serving local food and local beer. There’s a good menu and free WiFi. Legend has it that this place is called The Australia because a boat sailed from Porthmadog many years ago to Australia where the crew then deserted, a replacement Australian crew then sailed it back to Porthmadog and they frequented this pub so they called it the Australia.
Dog friendly, bear in mind it’s a small and busy pub. Maybe not for anxious or unpredictable dogs.nMonday night late September.nHadn’t planned to eat here but pleased we did.nAn array of beers that are brewed by Purple Moose.nFood excellent and variety good.nStaff are all very pleasant, friendly and welcoming.nRecommend booking, especially in season and weekends.
We popped in for an afternoon pint. Bartender was very helpful with choosing a beer on tap hand drawn. A great local pub.
My son & I visited in May 2024 during my 70th Birthday Tour Du UK. We were doing the Mach Loop, staying in Bala yet exploring. Visited Porthmadog on afternoon #2 and went back for our 2nd visit 2 days later. Cozy, food is outstanding and the beer , to Live For.
