A real ale pub in the harbour town of Porthmadog, and home of Purple Moose Brewery beers.

Story

The Australia, Porthmadog, is the brewery tap for the town's very own Purple Moose Brewery. We showcase the brewery's excellent range of cask, keg and bottled beers, as well as offering delicious home-cooked food.

We serve freshly prepared meals throughout the year, Wednesday to Sunday; 12:00pm-2:30pm and 5:30pm-8:30pm.

Went to The Australia for my birthday meal with my wife and three children. The food was a amazing! The Dark side burger has to be one of the best burgers I've ever had. Highly recommend going her if your near Porthmadog.
We came here are hiking Snowden and it was a very welcome dinner. The atmosphere is great and the staff were very helpful. We came in on a Saturday around 5pm and just got a table for two. You can reserve. I had the vegan lasagna which was good but I think it should have been better described in the menu. It’s as listed just as a vegan lasagna it was not clear it would come with sides it also was not clear what kind of vegan lasagna it was, it’s a vegetable lasagna which is a bit of a let down if you’re expecting a lentil lasagna or faux meat lasagna, but it was still good. I just think the menu needs more information. My partner had the fish and chips and said it was delicious! The beer was also very good and the drinks were well priced.nnOn google maps as well it looks like they used to have a vegan pie I was sad to come in and find it no longer on the menus.
Went for something to eat and drink on Saturday night , enjoyed some great drinks and equally great food whilst watching the rugby. A great selection of drinks including 0pc alcohol , a brilliant food menu which includes smaller appetites not just for children.
Visited and had a couple of drinks and some chips.nnBar staff were very friendly and helpful. Had a pint and a half of Dark Side Of The Moose and Mwsh which were both good off the tap.nnAsked for chips but the kitchen was closed, however one of the kitchen staff appeared and offered to make them up for us anyway. The chips were excellent and some of the best I've had recently.nnGood pub with good beer, good music, and good food. No notes.
Food at The Australia in Porthmadog was top notch. The starters of truffle arancini and onion bhaji were fantastic. Mains of high hops chicken and trio of butchers sausages are highly recommended. It gets busy here very quickly, so I’d advise reserving a table. There is additional seating upstairs, but the stairs are steep and may not be suitable if you have mobility issues. There was a great atmosphere and good selection of beers and wines. The staff were friendly. I’d recommend eating and drinking here.
