A down to earth old school pub which are a dying breed and that is the problem it was empty apart from one bloke at the bar, I've been here a couple of times and it has only had a few in there each time I've visited. The Artful Dodger gets good reviews for being a salt of the earth pub and not losing it's traditional East End charm but it can't survive in the long term if it continues with hardly any customers. I love an old school boozer and give me one over a gastropub any day of the week but pubs like The Artful Dodger need to try harder and attract the passing trade and keep any new regulars. The lack of anything else rather than the bog standard lagers like Carlsberg, Fosters etc was telling and the place needed a proper clean, just a touch of tlc so it doesn't put people off, myself and my mate played pool and the balls had seen better days and were all marked, maybe invest in a new set of pool balls and cues. Also perhaps do small bar snacks like toasted sarnies, sausage rolls, pork pies etc. I'm just suggesting a few things so next time I happen to walk past The Artful Dodger or check that it's open I hope I don't see 'closed' next to it and that would be a shame.
What an amazing pub. I just stumbled in after a long flight and even after walking the whole of London this was my favorite place to be. Super welcoming, great crowd, fantastic owners. They have dart leagues a few times a week and a sweet jukebox. I’ll be back! Did I mention they pour a spectacular drink as well!Service: 5/5
Great little pub, brilliant and friendly girl behind the bar and a warm welcome from the regulars. Has a nice beer garden and the vibe is fun and chilled.Service: 5/5
Decent little pub with big windows to watch the world and DLR trains go by. Artwork needs a bit of attention but it does the job. Has a pool table.
No nonsense old skool pub. On my first visit yesterday chatted to a range of friendly people and manages to get in a few games of pool. Good management and staff. Will be back.Service: 5/5
The staff is not that friendly, but for a quick beer they do a decent job. The music is straight up awful, but the prices are okey. If you looking for a place to stay longer, rather keep looking than staying hereService: 2/5
My husband celebrated his 60th here with all his friends The staff were fantastic and the owners always welcoming They put on a spread which was lovely If you want the common all bar ones this isn't the pub for you But if you want a good friendly traditional pub then this is for you
The Artful Dodger Tower Hill £3.40 Carlsberg Darts 1 Table Friendly locals pub about five minutes walk from Tower Hill tube station. The landlady George was great and gave a warm welcome as I perched my self at the bar. The lads at the bar were good craic, telling me about there planned Beano to Margate the next day. The pub is a proper old school boozer with great character, will definitely be visiting again, Great Pub. Information correct on visiting 08/09/17
An unique pub. When you enter through the doors you don't become just a customer thirsty for a pint. You become a part of the family.
Visited for the first time recently and I was absolutely blown away. From the second I walked through the door I felt completely at home. Superb atmosphere throughout my stay, friendly staff, great selection of old and new music on the jukebox, and so refreshing to see a pub putting Southern Comfort in pride of place behind the bar. Will definitely be coming back to try the infamous Ronnie special!!!
