Lovely decor in a nice hotel in the heart of Bury St Edmunds. Very friendly staff, and as you can see it’s dog friendly too massive bonus!. The setting, ambience, and the fire all add to the experience. The menu is interesting, and the food was good. I felt I added quite a lot of salt to mine, but of course that’s personal taste. The haddock was a little greasy. If I could give this place 4.5 stars I would, but for me a 5* is exceptional, so a worthy 4 stars. Lovely way to spend an evening
Absolutely the best pie we have ever tasted! Excellent place to celebrate my birthday, lovely comfortable surroundings and the staff were engaging interesting chatty and great fun. We will definitely visit again - Excellent parking for disabled drivers right out side 3 hours free!
Went to The Eaterie @ The Angel for an early dinner, set menu. The location is great and the decor is well worth having a coffee by the fireplace. Staff were amazing, smiling and professional. 5* for them. Unfortunately the food was less than a 5* experience. Decent size portions, and a lovely carrot soup were not enough to make it up for the dried slices of pork rump meat from the main, or the bland coconut dessert. The location is great for a drink in a nice setting, however I would think twice before ordering food.
Really lovely meal! Got a cosy table in the corner, service was just right not too slow, not too fast. Had a decent mocktail selection for me pictured: the Abbey Garden alcohol free and great gins for the other half who does drink. Food was delicious. Garlic prawn nibbles were impressive! Atmosphere lovely, busy little restaurant and great views of the Abbey opposite. Will definitely try it again!
Amazing fixed price early bird, 3 courses with cocktail £29. Delicious and the staff were lovely and so accommodating
Very nice food and cocktails with friendly, welcoming and attentive staff, without being too intrusive. Happy Birthday written in chocolate on the desert plate was a nice discrete touch. Would highly recommend.
Had a lovely birthday dinner for my father here! The bread was warm and the butter was creamy. The wine was good. We thoroughly enjoyed all three main dishes: the beef short rib pie, the wild sea bass, and the red snapper. They had a nice little birthday treat with a candle and we split the decadent sticky toffee pudding. This was my first time coming for dinner and I’ll definitely be back!
Fantastic building, fantastic staff and lovely relaxed atmosphere. The heating was on too high for me personally and found it very hot inside. But everything else about the building was immaculate. The food was nice, well presented and cooked well but I felt my pasta dish of wild mushroom linguine with truffle oil was a bit bland. Wild mushrooms are normally full of flavour but I couldn't taste any real mushroom taste, it was cooked so beautifully though that I still really enjoyed it and will be going back.
We visit our friends each year just before Christmas at the Angel Hotel Bury St Edmunds, they reside in Beccles and my Wife and I in Northampton. We meet in December at the Angel Hotel for lunch, and have done so for the last 20+ years, on each occasion we have thoroughly enjoyed their excellent menu's and drinks. The staff are an absolute joy to see and meet, the meals are supreme. Roll on December 2023. Thank you all so very much for your hard work and first class 2023 visit last Sunday. Merry Christmas to you all and a very Happy New Year for 3023 onwards.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and great food. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
