Great atmosphere, old pub, lovely fireplace and decent food for a reasonable price. They have very small selection of non Shepherd Neame beers though, but they have Neck Oil, which was good enough for me. Overall 8.5/10, would come again.
Very historic pub. Nice interior. Dog friendly. Pleasant service. We had the fish and chips which were fine.
Excellent grub here! Friendly bar staff who will always go out their way. Great choice of alcoholic beverages. They have even bagged their self a 5 STAR FOOD RATING! well done. Looking forward to trying their Sunday roast next! Well done guys
Only giving one star because giving 0 isn’t possible!!! Pina Coladas are watery and the food there is inedible! Appalling they actually thought they could serve such a fatty , meatless, tasteless meal. The staff are very unpleasant and incredibly impolite. WORST PLACE EVER!!! AVOIDDDD!!!
Hmm, where to start. Having been a dozen or so times over the past 4 years, it may well have now changed hands or simply lost direction a little. The positives are that it's still Dog friendly and is still a nice country style pub, however last night they let themselves down somewhat. Went in with a plan to eat but got the immediate impression that there was a lack of enthusiasm to cook, asked them to clear and clean a table for us and although initially the plates were removed, 10 minutes after sitting down the table was still littered with 7 or 8 glasses, crisp packets that hadn't been cleaned. Despite this the same gentlemen came to take our food order without clearing the table, when we asked why the table hadn't been cleared he said quote 'I have been cleaning plates in the Kitchen' - not sure how that became his priority ahead of his customers and hygiene, maybe we had a junior member of staff or someone that lacks basic training but unfortunately the Anchor has now lost our business for the time being...shame as it's been good in the past.
Went for a drink with our 1 year old today, decided to sit in the garden to let him run about. Unfortunately the garden was FULL of dog poo, at least 10 different piles of the stuff all over the place. Shame because we would have liked to have let our child run around, but had to move inside because of it. Have been to the pub a few times before and it’s been nice, have always had a good experience, but have to say this visit has put us off.
Lovely pub with a log burner in the front bar and a very welcoming barman . Unfortunately, I was only here for a few pints but it's definitely worth another visit. Has a small frontage with a few benches on which would make a nice place to perch in the summer.
A great pub with lots of character. The staff are nice and friendly and the selection of Shepherd Neame beers is very good. As well as having a nice pub indoors there is also a nice big beer garden which is perfect for warmer days. The pub is dog friendly and is is a good stop off point from the many walking routes in the area. As The Anchor Inn is at the end of Abbey Street it is often a bit quieter than some of the other pubs around square near the market place in the centre of the town. So you are usually more likely to get a seat at busy times. Highly recommended.
The pub has lost a lot of character since the refit. Beer was good though and the garden is very nice
Really lovely old pub. First time here. Ales were lovely. Had a lovely lunch. Very reasonably priced food. Friendly staff. Update to above keeping the five stars! Evening meal and drinks with family this time. Super food. Steak and Kidney pudding was to die for. Everyone else enjoyed their meals, veggie as well. Cask ales perfect. Recommended.
