The food was great, staff friendly & attentive. The pub is situated in a nice rural location. Car park quite small, with street parking across the road. The only downside is that the venue is quite small inside with tables to either side of the bar. The locals clearly do not appreciate diners in their pub as they are quite raucous, a fair bit of ripe language with young ears around. The door is open & closing all the time which leaves a draft. Dogs come into the pub with owners which is fine but they were begging at the table which is irritating or people bending over bottoms in your face whilst eating. Wasn't sure if it was deliberate or just not bothered. Ruined the meal to be honest. Would go back for the food but would hesitate due to the above. Real shame.
Fantastic food ! Could not fault any of it! Very good value for money. Very welcoming staff ! And a fantastic chef! Great for a meal with the family and friends! Would definitely recommend, and will definitely be back
Welcoming staff! Delicious meal! Chefs pate with toast and chutney was a tasty starter followed by home made steak & ale pie and fresh vegetables. Fully recommended! *****
So gutted as the reviews were amazing and we were only in the village for 2 nights so were really looking forward to a proper local countryside pub lunch. I think it's probably a lovely pub for a drink, great inside, super cosy with real log fire and welcoming staff & lovely locals. Sadly, our food took forever to arrive, in fairness to the short staff we were a large group 12 but the time it took even for our starters to arrive set the mood for things to follow. We had even pre ordered but still waited over 1hr 45 mins for our mains to land. The majority of the food was fine, but the burgers were terrible, for some reason TWO large tasteless patties were stuffed into one bun, and across all meals starters and mains we noticed a lot of the salad was taking a turn for the worse... Prices were very fair but you can do way better in the area, we should have listened to our Air BnB host...
This is my kind of pub. Located in a beautiful part of the Kent countryside there are plenty of walks and areas to explore nearby. I personally cycled there and sat out in their courtyard which was surrounded by colourful hanging baskets. I was served straight away and it wasn't long before I was enjoying a nice cold pint of Spitfire Lager. The inside of the pub is very welcoming and traditional and the food was also very tasty and I didn't have to wait long. I also noticed that they have had a lot of varied music entertainment over the summer.
Rather a curate's experience with lapses that could easily be fixed. Food 3 of us was mainly of a high standard but the gravy with the pie was typical packet "bisto" type, although the beef in the pie was excellent but could have also made a magnificent gravy. I had pea soup, then a baked cod in a white sauce. The soup and sauce were both very watery although still tasty. The fish was superb. Another main was the house burger, delivered in "tower" style. The ingredients were good individually but it didn't gel as a dish. Our main concern was that it took an hour to deliver the main from ordering. This would have been OK if that had been made clear when ordering. Perhaps that is normal here and regulars maybe accept that but there was no management of expectations or even a hint of apology after I asked if there was "a problem".
It was nice enough but probably won't be going back. Staff seemed friendly, but didn't really engage. Went a with a groupon voucher . Firstly had to wait ages for a menu as 3 other tables had taken them all , around 10 people there in there restaurant. Thinking it might be a posh menu turned out to be a print piece of paper with a very limited selection. And nothing hardly in the price of what the voucher was worth so had to pay extra We had constant spiders making webs over us and was a little undust . The tiger prawns where small king prawns with a chilli butter ,and a frozen roll heated up on the side, was nice enough but very disappointing with prawns Then mains we went for a fish and chips. Which was I believe £13 each. my partners fish was no thicker than my little finger and watery. And mushy peas were tasteless and watery. But other than that food was nice enough. But you would get better quality for money going to a fish bar.
Attended for lunch midweek with my wife. A lovely old pub with a log fire burning away. Friendly greeting & service as soon as we entered & quickly served drinks and ordered our meal. Top quality 3 course meal in great setting. Will certainly return in the future
Just the best pie for miles around. All the food is good but its hard not to return for my fav. Super busy even post lockdown on a Thursday so need to book. This time they had beef and ale pie instead of chicken and it was just as good.
Great local! All kinds of special nights planned with great fresh food. A good fun night out!
