This is a lovely old pub that is mainly for eating rather than 'pub' drinking. It has a clean modern decor. We visited it for Xmas lunch and there was a selection of choices including turkey. The food was not too bad considering we were a party of 19. The starters were good, the main course average, as was dessert. The ladies who served us were very proficient, helpful and friendly.
Lots of pubs say they are dog friendly, The Amsterdam Inn is more than that, it is one of the best dog friendly pubs I have ever visited! They ask if your dog can have biscuits and the biscuits come with lots of fuss too. The Amsterdam also supplied a blanket for your dog to lay on and a toy to keep them amused whilst waiting for lunch. Amazing pub!
They have only been open a few days so there will be a settling in period. The beer - good selection of Harveys beers but disappointing that there was no Best Bitter. One beer was off but was changed without query - they need to check them before start of service. Decor - as you would expect it has been fully refurbished and looks really smart. Food - the burger was good but I was amazed when they said they don't provide cutlery, so eating is a rather messy experience hence the title; the chips were excellent.
Very slow service. We were a group of 11. We asked at the bar about ordering and were told due to the large number of us our order would be taken at the table. No menus were provided, we had to go and find some. It took half an hour before our orders were taken. The wait for the food was far to long. We had to ask for cutlery, which was basically dumped in a pile at the end of the table. Another long wait to be asked if we wanted deserts. The lamb on one plate was under cooked. One of the starters ordered was for bread and olives with slow roasted tomatoes. We were told that there were no olives with left which in itself was not a problem, however we asked if we could have some bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar instead. What we got was toast with olive oil. No balsamic and no slow cooked tomatoes as advertised.. suffice to say I for one will not be returning. Unatentive staff, mediocre food and very bad service. Maybe a good candidate for Hells Kitchen.
Absolutely love coming to the amsterdam inn. Has become my local now. Perfect for any occasion including out with friends, romantic dinner, quiz nights etc there's something for everyone. The food and drinks are reasonably priced and the staff are great. Definitely a well managed venue that I highly recommend
Met a few friends here today for breakfast as we have had some lovely ones here in the past. Unfortunately todays meals were nothing short of atrocious. Don’t know if they have a new chef in, or if someone was doing a shift in there that can’t cook, but 3 of us ordered the smashed avocado on toast, the bread had not been toasted so it was soggy, the poached egg on top was cold! Only one of us sent it back, it eventually arrived back, on slightly toasted bread but the egg was hot! All the other breakfasts had something missing on them, be it mushrooms, has brown or toast!! We will not be back again. Not good enough, sort out your kitchen.
Stopped off with the dogs after a river walk. Staff so friendly, very welcoming with the dogs, food reallygoodquality. Was a weekday and super fast service. Perfect! Will be back
visited Bella Italia in the Lanes. The restaurant is a little tired and the menu a little tatty, however the choice was good, and the service great. My meal started with the dough sticks with a butter and garlic dip, my friend and I got the size for 2 to share, but this was far too much as a starter, a single portion would have been more than sufficient. The main course we both went for the pasta with beef and mushrooms marinated in red wine, although delicious the meat was tough. I am not sure if I would go here again as there as many restaurants to choose from in the Brighton Lanes.
Decided to go for a Sunday pub lunch with my partner and 2 little girls. 2 adult roasts, 2 children's roasts, 3 soft drinks and 1 beer for £58! Was not impressed with the food at all. Veg was dull and boiled, meat had no flavour and the cauliflower cheese was a bowl of mushy cauliflower with what seems just milk. The crackling that came with the pork was the size of a pencil. How a place can justify £14 for a roast of this standard is beyond me. So disappointed as we never get the chance to do this . Unfortunately will not be returning.
I understand that the pub is in a nice location but this seems to have just been used as an excuse to charge extortionate prices for small, undercooked portions and soft drinks. £9.30 for 2 halves of orange juice and a coffee cup of chips that had obviously been heated in the microwave is bonkers.
