The Althorp is a terrific hostelry situated next to Wandsworth Common. Great staff, all very busy on this full on Saturday lunchtime, service still quick, attentive and with a smile. A bit too crowded for photos. Beer is great, three cask ales on offer for those that do. In summary, the place is buzzing, easy to see why - a great place!
Christmas Day meal as our daughter only had two days off - we've come up from Somerset. Absolutely superb. Attentive service, more food than we could realistically eat, cooked superbly although Mrs P said her parsnips were a under. Beef was melt in your mouth. Recommended.
Great, easy going, classic local pub. fun, delicious food, atmosphere is super relaxed unpretentious. Staff and service is fine, you'll have a good time here. Bit of a sports bar feel when big games are on, but large seating area around the back. And in summer all of wandsworth common to sit on with your drinks.
Me and my family came here for Christmas Day first time visiting and we had such a lovely time. The staff made it for us! They were so welcoming. Food was also great. Really cosy pub too so can’t wait to get back for a pint soon.
Ordered steaks which were the best part of the meal but I forgot to take a photo. The same cannot be said of the desserts. We ordered the banoffee to share but when we saw the size of it, then got the cheesecake. The banoffee wasn’t great - the bananas were few and far between and not fresh at all. The cheesecake quite possibly was the worst I’ve had in a long time. The mango sorbet was excellent though!
Nice pub, good layout, friendly staff. Shows the sports, however sometimes they sacrifice the football for F1?!?!? Can even get drinks to take away onto the Common which is a nice touch. The pub has improved its cask/pump offering. Normally two changing guest beers. Overall it's a nice pub in a lovely location, with nice décor and ambiance. My pub of choice. Recommended.
The manager is an angry, rude, deeply intolerant man who hates customers and loathes perfectly well behaved children. If you value good service and warm, professional hospitality then go somewhere else. Sad because it could be a great family pub in the heart of ‘nappy valley’. As it stands it’s awful.
Unfortunately I cannot review the food as it didn’t arrive. At 9.30pm and after a 50 minute wait, it transpired our order hadn’t been sent through to the kitchen, by which time it had closed. To be fair, the offer was made to open it, but it was too late. Having requested we not pay for our wine, after another 10 minute wait, this was agreed. The most irritating part of the evening was the fact that the person responsible made no attempt to come to our table and apologise. We all make mistakes, but our evening was ruined. Perhaps the offer of complimentary coffee, or a drink might have helped. Very disappointing as I don’t live in London and had made the trip to enjoy an evening with my children.
I was sat having a few drinks and was approached by a member of staff and asked to move to another table to accommodate a family I was on a table for 4 people alone The member of staff said he had another table for me at the front. This table turned out to be a small stool in the corner of the pub on a table with two people already on it. It was so embarrassing. I really didn't want to sit with two strangers perched on a stool so I downed my drink and left. I hardly ever go out for a drink on my own and I won't ever be coming here again. It wasn't a nice experience.
Amazing Sunday lunches, fantastic staff and a lovely recent update to the restaurant.
