It was good but not amazing. The lamb chops were good but not extremely flavorful. The sticky toffee dessert was excellent I would definitely get that again. The staff was very nice and helpful. I would go back but only when they have the Sunday roast. It was a fun place. While the scallops were good it was three very small ones that cost about £15! Way overpriced for what it was.
Booked this place because I heard the Sunday roast is amazing. Totally true! The porchetta was massive and delicious! My brother ordered the prime rib and he really liked it. The service was great, they are very attentive and kind staff. At first it was quiet when we arrived but it didn’t take long until it got packed and everyone was enjoying their Sunday roast. I recommend for friends and family, even with little kids! Definitely go here if you’re in the area. Or make the trip, that’s what I did and everyone in my group left fully satisfied!
Definitely one of the best pubs in the area of Wandsworth. The service and food were amazing, we had brunch a couple of days in a row. All of their dishes on the menu are totally worth it. The atmosphere during afternoons and evenings is superb.
Visited late morning on a Wednesday. Tried the Jubel peach beer which was better than expected. Love the iconic Victorian exterior and it's position outside the train station. Lots of good quality outside seating to enjoy your drinks too.
I was really excited, as I had heard a lot of good things about The Alma, so had booked myself and two other people in for my birthday lunch on Sunday. We sat upstairs, and the room, in my opinion, has no atmosphere at all. It seemed very loud in there too, for me anyway. The service was so-so. Not the worst I have ever had, but also didn't feel particularly special in any way. On arrival there were two tables available, and I asked if we could have the round one as it was a bit nicer and it was my birthday plus, a round table is nicer for an uneven number of guests. The waiter sighed and seemed stressed at the thought. I would never make unreasonable requests, and I don't make demands, because I know what a thankless job they have been in their shoes myself before. But it is always okay to ask, and if it had been a no the table has already been requested etc., that would have been fine. We ordered the milk bread with chicken butter to start with. I asked for a side order of regular butter, because my partner is pescetarian. The plate came with the regular butter lodged in between the chicken butter. Thankfully my partner isn't fussy about things in that sense, so it didn't matter to us, but it still should have been separate. Another guest with a dietary requirement might not have been okay with it. My friend and I both had the 35 Day Aged Roasted British Rump of Beef. Now, I have left beef behind on a plate before for being dry, but this time I left half of it because it was so incredibly salty. My friend did the same. It was a shame, because the meat was still quite juicy, but the saltiness was too much. And the carrots had so much clove in them that everything after a carrot just tasted like clove. The potatoes bore signs of having been crispy once, but everything was piled up, so by the time we got the food, they were soggy. There was some cabbage underneath that I did quite like, cooked just right, and still a nice bright green colour. And the yorkshire pudding was decent too. I am not sure if the effort at The Alma is being placed on dishes such as the popular Thor's Hammer, as most people there seemed to be opting for the large sharing dishes. But the whole experience was definitely so far below what I had expected, and it was not a roast that I would come back for.
The margaritas here are amazing, very strong and tasty. The food we ordered was ok. We ordered the steak. It had an amazing flavour and was cooked perfectly. The truffle hash browns could have been crispier but the flavour was nice. Overall atmosphere was good. Great place for a catch up with friends or even date night. Will definitely be back soon to try the Sunday roast.
We'd planned a bit of a walk to land up at the Alma after seeing some TikTok and other social posts about the place. It did not disappoint. The atmosphere was excellent but to be fair this was helped by a controversial F1 race and England football match in the Euro's so the whole place was buzzing. Even though it was busy the food, beer and wine flowed and staff always on hand to take an order! Well done. Bigger place than I thought it was going to be.
Went on a Bank Holiday but still was able to have the Sunday Roast. Having lived outside the UK for over 30 years I forgot what portion size was like compared to Italian size! OMG my plate could have fed two. We also went for a portion of Pigs in Blankets which came with another Yorkshire pudding and a side order of Cauliflower cheese which could have been a meal itself. Very generous portions so make sure you don’t have breakfast. Food was delicious. Service was very good - everyone concerned the meal was ok. Couldn’t stretch to desert as we were too full but we had a blood orange sorbet which was a little tart but still refreshing. Highly recommend the place!

Service was excellent. We had the croquettes and shared the pressed watermelon and feta as a starter. For mains I had the meat-free wellington roast and my son had the 45 day aged sirloin roast. For desert, sticky toffee and hand pulled apple & rhubarb puddings. Thr starters were fine but I felt overwhelmed by my mains. I think I would have opted for the chicken roast as a lighter and tastier option. The deserts were curious. I think that strawberries and cream pavlova would have been a more suitable choice given our bellies were full. Next roast foray will be to ‘Blacklock’! I was glad to come away from central London where we normally dine. Wandsworth is not a million mile away.
