Have no issues with the Doctors at all at this surgery! But I have just tried calling from 8am to try and get into the queue quickly to get a appointment, with no success. Greeted with a message for over half a hour saying that my call cannot be taken at this time! Subsequently I tried calling from my mobile as I got through only to be 15th in line.then to be hung up on as phone went silent for a few moments. This really needs to be looked at as it is a disgrace.
Just spent 1 hour 32 mins on hold, counting down thorugh the queue, all the way until number one then just dumped into an endless loop saying "All our staff are busy, please hold" Listened to this for another 10+ minutes then gave up. It was now 6:12pm so no doubt shut by this point. Really not good enough for a healthcare organisation. Not even close
I phoned up for an appointment and was told a GP would phone me back. Dr Barrs phoned me back and we discussed my issues. I was then booked in for some tests and the nurse was very welcoming and helpful. She also had a great sense of humour, which helped me to feel relaxed. All the appropriate tests were carried out and I was given the results quickly. It is a very good medical practice.
Absolute rubbish. Worse than bad. Never answers the phone, leaves the phone to ring out while they go for lunch with no message or cover for answering the phone. Rude and unattentive staff. If it's a hassle to help people then don't work in health care
I am at my wits end with this practice. I've lived in Newport for 20 years and it's always been extremely difficult to even get an appointment, let alone begin to solve any health problems. I feel that my only option would be to move to a practice in Dundee. I tried phoning yesterday for a telephone appointment with the doctor after great difficulty and was told to phone back the next morning. After trying to phone 20 times this morning, I just gave up. I'm just fed up with it. It needs to be addressed and changed because it's no use.
Absolutely shocking service from sullen reception staff… Incredibly difficult and inflexible system and almost impossible to get an appointment. Showed very little interest when a family member was terminally Ill. Complete lack of empathy evident from those whose job it is to care.
As previous reviews attest, getting ahold of the practice by phone is exceedingly difficult and once you manage to get through to someone, you are made to feel as if you are an inconvenience. Of the receptionists I have managed to speak with, most of the have been rude and apathetic at best. While a few of the doctors I have seen were nice, my most recent experience has caused me to switch medical practices if the awful receptionists weren’t enough. Several medical staff were the most impolite, patronising, and uncaring people I have ever had the misfortune to interact with.
It's impossible to get a appointment or talk to a doctor unless you have hours to sit by your phone
Read the other reviews and don't make the same mistake I did! Expect to wait for 20 minutes on hold before you can reach the receptionist, and once you do, prepare to be made to feel guilty and like an inconvenience. This practice is completely unprofessional and has serious issues with communication and customer service. The GPs themselves are nice, but the rest of the practice is completely disorganised and getting an appointment can take weeks. I hope someone here reads this and takes notice, but based on past experience I am doubtful. I'll be transferring to another practice as soon as possible.
Got up with excurciating back pain and phoned at 08.00 for an emergency appointment. Phone was engaged for 20 minutes then when I finally got through I was told rather abruptly and rudely to go to minor injuries or A and E. I couldn't drive as too painful and I just feel the service given at this practice is only ever any good if you can get past the poor attitude of the receptionist. I am a health professional and would be sacked if my attitude toward patients was consistently like this. Whom ever this receptionist is she really needs to find herself another job where she doesn't come into contact with the general public. I am seriously considering moving to another practice. This experience happened at the Tayport surgery.
