After extensive travel across Europe, I must say that this particular hostel experience stands out as one of the most disappointing ones I've ever had. I strongly recommend against investing your time and money here. The staff lack professionalism and courtesy, which is evident in their behaviour. The room keys consistently malfunction, leading to frequent visits to the reception for assistance. Extra charges are applied for nearly every service, leaving guests feeling frustrated and taken advantage of. The overall atmosphere is unwelcoming and uncomfortable, with a tendency to attract rowdy, often inebriated locals. In summary, this was a subpar experience. We booked through Hostelworld but were not informed about late check-in fees, which ended up costing us an extra £5 per person. Even after reaching out ahead of time to inquire about special requirements due to our late arrival, the hostel failed to provide us with any information. Additionally, the staff seemed more interested in financial transactions than in ensuring guest satisfaction. Basic amenities like towels, soap, and shampoo, which are typically standard in hostels, were missing. The bed assigned to us was poorly made, and we had to wait for the hostel staff to rectify it, raising concerns about hygiene, especially regarding the cleanliness of bedding between guest stays. The overall lack of cleanliness at the hostel is worrying and is a recurring issue throughout the premises, with stained carpets, unvacuumed areas, and pervasive dust. Strange odors permeate the space, suggesting inadequate cleaning and maintenance. Avoid!
The staff on arrival were very helpful, they can't be faulted however the place itself is not good. I'm writing this on behalf of the person staying here who was sent from hospital as they have no fixed abode. He is very disheartened. He described some features, not all. The bed base has mould. There is no access to cold drinking tap water only hot water in the room. The staff kindly got him bottled water from a local shop. He was told he would get a room with no stairs to climb but this hasn't happened. I could mention much more that i witnessed on dropping him off that concerned me personally but I'll stick to the place itself in as much as I can pass on.
Good overall experience. Great location and facilities, clean and relatively quiet. Only negative is about staff. Out o 3 member of staff I encountered at reception was warm and slightly friendly. The guy who checked me in on Friday seemed to be very lost and did not seem to know what he was doing. After checking me in, he made me wait until at reception while he checked someone else in, being around 10pm and me feeling really tired I just wanted to find my room and rest. I found him to be be out of touch and unprofessional. No ground rules explanation or other information. Checking out on Sunday, another young guy at reception was not even to respond to a greeting or say a single word during the process!!! I just don't get it. Now I feel although I liked the facilities and cleanliness I don't think I'd go back, I think human contact is part of the whole experience especially having shared a room with two great guys. I think they should be trained in customer service or or people who understand the hospitality business be employed.
Too noisy. The room doors are too easy to open. Carpet in room needs updating. People spitting on the steps just outside the door. Smoking just outside the window choking me making it impossible to sleep. The tables in the eating area needs updating and the seats are uncomfortable. The microwave needs fixing. Again you are charged for a locker if you want to leave your luggage after checking out early but they don't tell you that instead they charge you for a flimsy padlock which is not really secure. Also the locker in the bedroom is okay but you aren't told to bring a padlock either so again you get charged for a padlock. There is only one light all the way at the front of the door and so if you need to turn the light off and read there is no bedside light or switch. One staff member did not know what he was doing and could not find my ID and took ages to check me out. Also telling people that they can't drink in the bedroom is ridiculous as water at least is necessary to drink. I won't be staying there again.
Beds from £7-8 pounds while still being walkable to the city centre which is fantastic. Beds are comfortable, staff a very friendly and helpful. Kitchen is fully equipped. No elevator or disabled access, and the access cards for the room will regularly fail and need to be reset due to an old key card. Common room is also near and tidy.
It's out of the way, but there are buses that hi there. The 38 is closer but it's an uphill walk from Buchanan bus station. Another bus goes from there on stand 39 every hour, but it's from a housing estate at the other side Taxi would be my choice with baggage. They are really helpful and lockers are available for just ,£3. Clean, comfy, good size room. Great bathroom and shower. Worth a stay.
A nightmare, don't even think about staying here. Terrible check-in procedure with no regard for order of arrival. Also near a major highway so kind of loud. I was checked into a room without any clean beds. I offered to change the bedding myself but was told no. Waited 45 minutes and nobody came back with the linens so I left to find food. A male employee entered the all female dorm without so much as a knock. The place is overall pretty filthy especially the bathroom and there's also a lot of drunkenness but I guess you get what you pay for. Update: You couldn't even pay me to stay here. A woman came in while I was sleeping, woke me up and said this had been her bed and why was I in it. All this after reception insisted I had to wait for this bed. I would have left but the other reviews make it clear getting a refund is a hellish ordeal.
In our 6 months of travelling around Europe, this is possibly the WORST hostel we have stayed at. PLEASE don’t waste your time or money. The staff are rude and incompetent. The keys to the room almost never work so you always have to go down stairs to reception to get it fixed. They charge you extra fee’s for almost everything. The atmosphere is terrible, it’s so awkward to be in any of the common areas - we always felt so uncomfortable. It’s almost as though its the hangout place for drunken locals. A very intoxicated man was let into our dorm where he proceeded to yell and swear at people in our dorm, and swear to himself. He even got up and urinated all over the window and a persons shoes, drink bottle and our bag. We also weren’t refunded for their faulty laundry machine after attempting to use it either.
Brilliant value. Clean and comfy. I stayed in my own room but there are shared rooms available. My only qualm was that the car park was very small so parking wasn't always available. I do understand that this not a easy issue to fix but I thought I'd mention it
Convenient and cheap; comfortable yet sterile; no atmosphere and definitely not the friendliest hostel I've ever stayed at. Itchy as hell bed linen. Asked the guy working reception for local recommendation - was told to check on my phone! About sums up the place.
