Not clean and uncomfortable service. You can see just how the host responds to these reviews how his attitude is Kitchen is not much use. No fridge and just not a place I'd want to cook. I've stayed at many hostels in this price point and there's really no excuse for such low standards.
Its OK hostel which is close to city centre. Staff were friendly and helpful. This is a very casual hostel where things are at a more relaxed pace. It is also safe space with keys to rooms and main front door so if you come back late you are not locked out. Good place to go if you are in Glasgow for short stay.Rooms: 3/5
Rooms were as advertised, nothing wrong with them. Bathrooms were fine. Kitchen also as advertised, I suppose . . . no refrigerator, very few cups or bowls. However, the kitchen was in a constantly dirty state---staff/guests left dirty dishes, oven was smoking, bugs climbing on walls etc. Simply not worth the price, spend a bit more elsewhere unless you don't plan on entering the kitchen then maybe it's worth it. Until they overbooked my room. Stayed for multiple nights but had to spend one on the couch because someone entered and slept in my bed. They deny overbooking, but it is still their responsibility to ensure guests know where their room is but guest was able to unlock the door, so clearly they were in the room assigned. Staff offered no remedy for this, unsurprisingly, and was not especially attentive to the guests. Location is conveniently between center city and university areas.
Absolutely atrocious. Disgusting, trash and random stuff everywhere, seemed to be people living there, musty, people were unwashed and slept all day not like you’d want to use the showers there anyway - gross NOWHERE TO KEEP YOUR LUGGAGE except tiny lockers where you can’t even fit a backpack but there seemed to be trash in them anyway, rooms were hot, wallpaper was coming off the walls, two of the three beds we booked didn’t have pillows, there was a pair of dirty underwear in one of the beds, did not feel safe or comfortable at all, we were booked for two nights but left after a couple of hours. Total mistake to book this, not worth the price. Felt like the type of place you’d get assaulted or have your stuff stolen. Lady at the front desk was nice though. It was our mistake for booking it, we should of read the reviews first.
I’d give 4/5 because I paid very little and got a clean room with sufficiently comfortable beds and clean bedding, as well as good internet and shower, all with no hastle. But, there was a couple German cockroaches. The clean, minimalistic rooms meant I just saw a couple during my night here, but still something that warrants fixing.
Staff is really nice. I stayed twice. The first night i booked the 14 bed room, personally as a single woman traveler would not do the 14 bunk room option again. The second night I did the 4 bed room and felt safer, but I happened to be the only one in that room that night. The first night I was honestly a bit nervous because in the large room there were some who had a lot to drink and as a single woman it feels unsafe. It is cheap but if you are a single traveling woman, i recommend the smaller all girl room. The staff is nice and a good place to meet new people. But, I do understand that it is a backpacker hostel and I clean after myself, but others dont. I have stayed in hostels before and will say that this one was the most unclean. The beds are fine and good and clean. I think its more that some things just need updated as it is an old building or stricter rules on guests cleaning after themselves. I read that the staff cleans ect....but i am speaking more on the Perspektive of being a single woman traveler and to be careful.
We are two young people, well versed in travel and staying in hostels, we are not fussy and know what to expect when staying in hostels. We arrived at the hostel and immediately felt unsafe, the staff were not welcoming, rude, and not interested in patrons staying at the hostel. There was a male staff member in the lobby, very inebriated, continuing to drink alcohol and blaring music from his laptop. The entire hostel was dark, dingy, and filthy. Our private room was nothing like the pictures as advertised, and the shared bathroom was disgusting. We had no Wi-Fi or service in our room and the music from the staff member could be heard clearly from our room despite it being 11 pm. As a result, we left immediately after checking in and had to use an emergency credit card to book a hotel so we didn't have to sleep on the streets.
The location is immaculate if you would like access to city quickly. The staff are extremely welcoming. It’s looks a bit better than advertised and was quiet and conducive.Rooms: 3/5
!!!!! AVOID !!!!! Albanian man who works there forced himself on my friend who is a young female. Waited until the hostel was quiet and no one was about. Shouted ‘we will get a private room later’ after she managed to run out of the hostel.
By far the cheapest Hostel in Glasgow, so it’s got that going for it. Room was okay for the price. Unfortunately the kitchen was filthy and none of the appliances worked except the stove at least we and others couldn’t get the plug sockets to work. Loud partying and music till 1am and then again loud singing and guitars from 5am - might be your jam though. Wi-Fi didn’t work/had no signal in our room. Didn’t feel comfortable around some patrons so we rebooked the second night to go somewhere else, but if you’re in search of a cheap place to stay this could do for you.
