Always a pleasure visit Sweetharts and support local. There's always something tasty on the menu to tempt you and the range of cakes and pastries is amazing. It's often really busy but nothing is ever a bother for the staff - they are always lovely
Been here a handful of times and its always been lovely. However our latest visit was really disappointing. I'm sorry to leave a less than positive review but overall it really wasn't good. We had booked a table for my mums birthday but after some hiccup with the waitress who seemed confused by this fact, were shown to the one reserved table. However, the sign had been put on a dirty table which we had to ask to be cleaned.nWe placed our orders for food and drinks, but the young waitress came back twice to say the drinks we ordered were no longer available. The choice of 4 different flavours of fanta dwindled to just one. Once ordered, four of us got our food in about ten minutes. However, one of the toasties had barely seen a toaster and had very little filling. I ordered a custard tart the one uncooked item that could've been brought out first but had to chase it up 5 minutes into everyone eating their meals. My dads tea had been served with an empty milk jug which also had to be chased up. My egg custard wasn't quite right and was rather under set. The hot chocolate was also disappointing, it was very watery with most of the powder stuck to the bottom - tasted like it has been made with water rather than milk. On a positive note, the other toasties were lovely and my husband enjoyed his sausage butty but the bottle of ketchup he was given was virtually empty. On paying, my aunt mentioned the poor toasty and the staff gratiously knocked it off the bill. Overall, I feel like Sweethearts has gone downhill since we last visited. I'm not sure if the young staff just lack experience but i'm sorry to say that dirty tables, empty sugar bowls, undercooked food etc. is just not what we've come to expect. There is a lot of competition in consett now, with a few little cafes appearing of late so I sincerely hope Sweethearts Bakery find their spark again.
A friendly greeting on arrival and we were shown to our table and orders taken.nnWhilst orders were being prepared we had a browse around the cafe at other produce you can buy to take away if you wishnnWe ordered a baked potato with cheese savoury and a cheese scone and two hot drinks. The baked potato was filling and very tasty and the cheese scone was huge and came with butter a small ramekin of cheese cubes and tomato chutney and also very filling.nnWe ordered some rye bread to take away and two strawberry tarts for two friends who absolutely loved them.nnA little out the way but worth the journey.
We ordered food for a memorial service buffet and it was unbelievable. We added a fruit platter, cheese board, fresh bread and Charcuterie board with pickles and olive's. Oh and some fresh cream cakes.nEveryone thoroughly enjoyed the food - top quality and amazing service nThank you Sweetharts
We went in here on 10/08/24 for breakfast and it was truly amazing, from the second you walk in it smells amazing from the fresh cooked breakfast and the home made breads and pastries which you can but to takeaway.nWe had a full English breakfast and avocado Benedict which were both out of this word, we had fresh orange and earl grey tea which accompanied the food perfect.nWe waited around 20 minutes for the food but this tells you that it’s cooked fresh and when it came you could tell the quality of their produce.nThe young girls working in there are so polite and attentive which goes a long way.nWe also bought some of their amazing cakes and their bread is to die for especially their fresh Cooked ciabatta bread.nKeep up the good work and you will see us again soon
