Fabulous idea with indoor and outdoor seating where you can get a drink and then decide what you want to eat. Also with the rotating roster of food trucks you are assured that there will be a variety of different types of food which is great for groups. The beer dispenser where you get the perfect pour as the glasses fill from the bottom is very slick and you get a souvenir County Fare magnet to take home. I personally love the no dog policy as I think that the situation at Hunt St Market could be true of this venue where there could be dog fights and also disturbance of meals by curious pets is possible so I'm hopeful this policy does not change. Parking in the shopping center parking lot is free and plentiful.
This is a great place if you're interested in grabbing a beer and some good food. If you're a casual bet dinner then you'll find an exhaustive list of beers available, both on tap and in bottles and cans. For there more avid drinkers, you'll find the assortment a little less all-encompassing, but you'll have a good selection. There is generally a good selection of food trucks, but the house food is decent and reasonably priced. Lastly, it's a great spot to bring the kids, with plenty of room outside.
Wow Wow Wow. This place is fantastic. When you pull up you think weird location in front of an average strip mall in suburbia. Not that great. And then you step inside. While checking out the amazing LED menu screens we were greeted by this nice fellow [turned out to be one of owners and he gave us a personal tour] who inquired whether this was our first trip. We said it was. He explained they had the LARGEST BOTTOM FILL SYSTEM IN THE WORLD. He says most have 4. They had 30? It utilizes this neat system of a magnet [I think] and this disc and I guess the weight of the suds. When you finish you have a cool magnet for the fridge. Interior was nice. Dont miss the cool American flag, the incredibly long custom built communal table and the well-thought out outdoor area. Food trucks are switched out after lunch. Their own food area to open later. COUNTY FAIR DECOR. Will be Fair Food items. Food trucks use beeper system and the owners put in electric for trucks so no shouting and no generators.
While it isn’t a new concept, it’s certainly fresh for this area. The parking is easy since there aren’t many other businesses serving the area. I’ve blown several afternoons here just playing cornhole, nibbling on food truck fare, and enjoying the beer. I am especially grateful they have two Deschutes beers on tap!
This. Place. Is. Awesome. Such a cool addition to the Durham scene. A perfect place for families and groups looking to please multiple people from a food & drink perspective. Outstanding beer and cider list. Cool inside/outside feel that will work rain or shine. Love the picnic tables and lawn games out back. Our kids could spend all day here. Highly recommend that you check this place out!
Great new space! There's lots of seating and a great selection of wine and local beer. The bottom up pour system for the beer means your souvenir for your visit is included. Convenient buzzers so you can sit with your friends while you wait for your food instead of wait in line listening for your name to be called from the food trucks. Can't wait to go back!
This is a fun little gathering place for food trucks in the heart of Durham. There is plenty of seating and a nice view. The ever-changing food truck selection means you get a new experience every time you go and the local beers on tap are a great addition to the food truck rodeo vibe.
Another reason to love Durham! When the food trucks come to you and the beer is flowing, great place!
My husband and I met some friends to check out County Fare this past Saturday. We loved it! Great indoor/outdoor and lawn seating, huge selection of beer, and the rotating food trucks gives you a chance to nibble when you are hungry. I like the variety of the food trucks too, something for everyone. Great concept! The bar staff was super friendly and upbeat even when it was super busy which matters to my husband and I when we go out in Downtown Durham. As downtown residents we like to feel a part of the community at restaurants and bars and enjoy positive, upbeat interactions with bartenders and wait staff. We had the opportunity to meet the owners who were working behind the bar as well as walking around meeting & greeting customers - they showed genuine appreciation and gratitude to us for choosing County Fare. There were times that the lines were a bit long at the bar, but with lots of hands behind the bar including the owners it really didn't take long. Other times there was no wait at all. I am sure these types of little kinks will sort themselves out very quickly. To be honest, we have waited longer in shorter lines for grumpy bar tenders plenty of times at other places downtown. We definitely look forward to going back to County Fare and secretly hope they decide to put a lil "quickie" bar somewhere in the outdoor area :-. County Fare is in a great location and has great energy! I know they have big plans for adding a kitchen as well as some other cool things.
County Fare is an awesome addition to the Durham food scene! It's a beautiful space with both indoor and outdoor seating and in the evenings they have white lights strung outside and it's just gorgeous! They have a large beer selection and when I was there, the bartender had several great suggestions for what I might like based on my beer preferences. He suggested two different beers and I ended up trying and loving! both of them. It's a great space to go with or without kids. The food truck rodeo concept is great because if the kids want to run around for awhile outside and play games, you can eat and then feed them later. It's nice to have some flexibility so you can feed them when they're ready to eat and not feel bad about screwing up timing for a server like at a restaurant. When we were there, they had four different food trucks. We took the approach of trying a little bit from each one and thought they were all great. Someone mentioned food trucks running out of food in one review, but I think this early on the food trucks are still figuring out how much to stock and expect that issue will correct itself very quickly. As for the folks complaining that this place doesn't allow dogs, there's absolutely no way you could have dogs here. Between the issues of dog poo and the uncertainty around aggressive dogs, it would be an absolute nightmare. I know everyone seems to think there dog is "friendly", but throw them in a new place with a bunch of kids running around and you just don't know what could happen. Take your dog to your local dog park to tire it out, then drop him off at home and come enjoy some great food and beer with your friends at County Fare! We'll definitely be back soon.
