I joined Sussex Bootcamps in February this year as a “quick fix” to get that miracle bikini body in a month before going on holiday, I was a size 12 and didn’t have too much weight to lose, but needed to tone up all the usual areas. When I arrived I really liked the environment, the group were friendly with people of varying exercise abilities and with different goals, and the trainers were not just aerobic teachers who had done the latest fad class! It was very obvious from the offset that whilst I considered myself to be reasonably fit, my actual muscle strength was very low and I found it incredibly hard. That’s no bad thing though as it made me very determined that at the end of the 4 week period I would make sure I could do everything better. As well as the sessions 3 times a week, I found the online forum invaluable for information and motivation. Over the month I was able to gradually change my mindset towards exercise and nutrition completely, and at the end of the month was happy to see some changes to my body shape. Since then I have been hooked. I have signed up every month and really look forward to the sessions. I set myself new challenges every month and have been amazed as I meet them without fail. The Bootcamp trainers set a challenge every month as well, and ways to improve your results is incorporated into every session that month with a re-test in week 4. The exercises that we do are not your typical boring gym moves, I love the boxing and surprised myself to find I can now do burpees with the press-up (YouTube it - Sussex Bootcamps) and we also have a good laugh at the same time (when we can breathe!), which is great. Every month I continue to learn new exercises and information, last month I attended the informal nutritional talk after one of the sessions, and found out that although I thought I was quite clued up about food, I really wasn’t. I made some basic changes to my diet and within 2 weeks I had lost 2lb. Over the last 6 months I have lost about 8lbs in weight, lost 2 inches off my waist, 2.5 inches off both my hips and thighs, and an inch off my arms – this may not sound like dramatic results but more importantly my body shape has completely changed and I am wearing shorts this Summer that I haven’t worn for 3 years – to me, that’s a result. I have previously tried every new gadget and gizmo to miraculously lose those pounds, but now I know that nothing comes without hard work and determination – but once you accept that and take responsibility for it, Bootcamp provides the tools, through the Trainers, exercises and advice, to achieve whatever it is that you want to.

Credit where its due, in my mind they run one of the most up and coming fitness groups in Sussex. I have been a member now for a few years and love it. Ben and Steve always update me through twitter and facebook of things going on like weight lifting with pumpkins over Halloween "great Idea". I always advise my friends to come along, they do a mixture of classes from intensive to the saturday morning classes which are a bit more relaxed. Must join sooooo good.
