Absolutely fascinating industrial site, suitable for people of all ages and physical abilities. The majority of the site is wheelchair/buggy accessible, there is a large and well-maintained outdoors playground and, inside the very informative exhibition hall, there is a small soft play area and multiple toddler play stations. On the day we visited, a temporary arts and craft stand and petting zoo were open too. It would have been nice to see more display boards covering the archeological excavations and the mine (although both are quite extensive, there isn't really anything on site to tell you what you're looking at) and it's worth noting that the car park and cafe both seem to get very busy during holidays. Neither a reason to remove stars from an otherwise brilliant (and free) attraction though. We'll definitely be back again.

Fantastic Museum exploring Scotland's industrial history. Lots to see and do. There is a mine tour and also for a small fee you can ride a tram around the site and the tram ticket lasts you all day. Otherwise the museum is completely free and there is plenty of parking. One of the must sees are the period cottages that depict life in various centuries. Well worth a visit.

A superb day out for all the family - learn about the industrial history of the area, mining and heavy industry. Good selection of large machinery and informative boards. Plenty to do for young kids and there is even a play area out doors - and it's all free!

Good to go for a whole day experience with the family. Free to get in and cheap for the tram. You learn lots and have a great time
