Is now called the Elephant and Peacock. Went in for a pint after a walk in Youlgreave, had a lovely chat with bar man who made us feel very welcome. Place has had a modern refurbishment and looks great. Never had food but specialisers in Indian cuisine.Service: 4/5
Exceptional 'desi pub' in a large historic building. Indian food served either as snacks or meals, with superb service. As you would expect there is a large range of lagers and drinks available. Definitely returning. Enjoy. MFood: 5/5
Visited on Saturday 17th December 2022. Now the Elephant and Peacock serving Indian/Indian English fusion within a traditional pub setting. Food is excellent, well presented, well cooked and quite delicious, the fish and chips with masala peas and sauce is exceptional. Dessert menu is also excellent with what tasted like homemade kulfi, quite unusual nowadays as most is mass produced. Drinks are far better than most Indian restaurants, there's still the usual Cobra etc, but there's also cask beer due to it being a traditional pub. Decor is nice...on the pub side, the restaurant side really needs soft furnishings to absorb noise as it's very echoey and can get to an uncomfortable level of noise; however, this was almost certainly due to the time of year.... lots of Christmas parties were in. Service was good but could be improved, bottle of wine was placed on table...but it wasn't opened, no cutlery, long waits for drinks, nothing major and everything was sorted out once we asked. We'll definitely be back, although we'll wait until the Christmas/New Year party season is over.
I am sure this place is fantastic inside but at the time of my visit, it was closed during to refurbishment. I would be looking forward to visiting this establishment once it reopens its doors. Situated next to the busy A6 on the edge of the historical town of Belper. It would be a great place to stay and visit the many historical sights in the area.
When we booked one night's stay in late September 2022, we paid for the room in full in advance. Following this the hotel came under new ownership and they advised us with only a few day's notice that they were under renovations and accomodation and food was unavailable. The hotels cancellation policy is if you cancel within 7 days of your stay there is no refund. We are still awaiting a refund and the hotel does not respond to email enquiries. What a way to treat customers, I would not recomend this hotel.
Great food, great atmosphere, good value and really friendly service. We had booked a specific table in the dog friendly section and we and especially the dog! received the warmest of welcomes. It all made for a truly lovely evening with our daughter and her partner. We'll be back.
Went to eat here in their new restaurant, The Elephant and Peacock and the food was really nice, it had been newly decorated and the decor was amazing and it was nice and relaxed although a little quiet inside, the service was great, not cheap but well worth the money in the current climate Food: 4/5
Good food, fusion of Indian and British within some dishes. Limited menu though after a few meals here.Food: 4/5
Nice inside and friendly staff. We had Sunday roast which was nice, but way to much food in my opinion. I had chicken, hubby had the beef which he wasn't keen on So if your passing and just want a reasonable meal than you won't go wrong.
First impressions are very very nice. Beautifully decorated rooms. I arrived Sunday late for a Mon-Fri stay. It wasn't long untill i realised in a heatwave, we had 10.5 tog feather duvets and no Aircon. We did have a fan that rotated the warm air. Opening the window was not an option due to the road noise to the front and some serious noisy machinery at the back. So 5 nights in a sauna. You check in at the bar that seems to be a one-staff hub for everything. There's bar, outside tables and restaurant. If you fancied eating there on a Monday, you're seriously out of luck cos no can do. No chef. No food on a Monday. And the saddest breakfast imaginable. Calling it 'continental' is nearly an insult as there's nothing i saw in terms of meat or cheese rather everything is out of a packet or bag from the supermarket. Once we got to Tues and the rest of the week, food was available and fabulous at that too. But no lunch except on Fridays. Prob bo chef again..... So you're in the middle of nowhere with a grim breakfast but fantastic 6 nights a week meal option. Suppose at least you won't gain too much weight. Cleaning is an issue unless cobwebs in the rooms count as decor. As the week went on, it was evident the communal areas didn't get hoovered. Shame really. Chatting with one of the staff it seems this place is being sold to become an Indian dining. This might explain why it seemed so part time and half hearted.
