Rustic charm and very welcoming pub and hotel. Stayed for 3 nights. Staff were lovely and accommodating made you feel at home. Great location for exploring heart of the Peak District. Food was amazing and all home cooked and good portion sizes. The continental breakfast was generous and tasty and coffee made to your liking. Personal service from Will who made sure you were looked after. Room was comfortable and tastefully decorated. This is an old building though so a jumper at this time of year is a good idea but this just adds to the charm. Our only recommendation would be a shelf in the bathroom for your toiletries and in the shower which would be useful. To sum up this is a charming and welcoming place to visit and value for money. We would recommend the Bear.
My favourite pub for the past 47 years. Reopened and gone back to a "pub menu", there was a bit of a wait. But when it came the food was great. The beer, as consistently good as it has been for years. The staff are lovely and friendly, helpful. Ace place.Service: 4/5
Been for a family meal tonight finally!- lovely traditional English pub atmosphere, welcoming staff and roaring fires. Food was excellent and the range and options on the menu was suitable for a variety of tastes and ages. I loved the comedy meal names too!!! I will definitely be back. Thank you.
This is a country classic pub, it’s got a beer garden with an amazing view over towards crich. But inside you will find rustic charm, a log lit fire and a range of beer and food that does justice to the setting. It does a great carvery and we think this pub does a good job of servicing your requirements all year round, summer outdoor vibes and winter cosines
We've not been here for ages so planned a Saturday beer and steak visit. I had calamari with tartare sauce for starter, very nice. Then a medium rare rib eye steak. The steak was cooked to perfection and was also a good tasty cut. Staff were friendly and efficient. A great night out.
A lovely wee find, it's out of the way, but not far from lots of attractions. A lovely place with a warm welcome along with a roaring fire. Our room was very comfortable with beautiful views. Food was delicious and a well presented pint. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.Rooms: 4/5
We stayed in blossom cottage which was lovely but the fridge was at least 5 inches of ice at the top . The kitchen blind was so dirty didn't like to touch it and it was broken. And the bedroom light shade was thick with cobwebs and the radiator in the bathroom was very rusty not nice to look at .Definitely not worth £105 for 1 night
I visited here a few weeks back with my partner, unfortunately this pub is supporting hunts which is something I cannot support or condone. I would love to visit again but until they are clear in their commitment not to host hunts we will be giving it a wide berth which is a shame because the food and drinks are very very nice. I get your sentiments towards not wanting to involve yourself in 'politics'. However, innocent lives are at stake here and putting profits over that has deemed it necessary for me to leave this review. A shame.
Great pub, wonderfully preserved very interesting. Food exceptional and the owners/staff were very friendly. I had the curry obviously made from s ratch, beef very tender, friend had risotto excellent, great menu choice which included light lunch option.Service: 5/5
We stayed here for a night a week before Christmas and it was amazing. The staff couldn't do enough to make our little stay so perfect. We stayed in the Peacock room and wow it was so beautiful didn't want to leave the bed it was so comfy. The food both dinner and breakfast was great quality and made all the more enjoyable next to the roaring open fire. All staff was so welcoming and friendly especially Will. We've booked to come back on valentines day cannot wait so glad we found this place definitely will make ourselves regulars.
