This station has a small ticket hall area along with a small entrance there is a sweet shop inside the ticket hall. There is no disabled access only stairs to the platforms. The station could do with a major face-lift and good lick of paint too. Very hot on the platforms
Great access to central London with the District and Hammersmith & city line. A little run down, but easy to get there.
Had a lovely experience today. I met a lady named Kate in the morning. She was really lovely, attentive and very helpful. She made sure to help every person approaching her with a smile..
The station needs updating as if you were a wheelchair user you'd be stuck either at platform level or pavement level. Staff never seem present and do not move on beggars or junkies that hang around outside of the entrance.
this is the worst terrible station in london. after the operation, she left with a small child with a pram. i am a single mom. NO ONE OF THE WORKERS CAN HELP ME LOWER THE CARRIAGE! I had to remove the cradle myself, carry the child to the ground and carry the other part of the stroller. people didn't help either. Help experienced only the elderly. who themselves ate GO. I'm on the cut. it's horrible.
A disaster of a station, possibly the worst station in London. Firstly, it is incredibly tiny. I believe that there are only a total of 5/6 barriers to tap in and out at this station. This becomes a problem once you go through the barriers and have to go down the stairs. It is literally like going down the stairs of a block of one of them rugged flats in East London, an awful experience - there is limited space. In this terrible station, all passengers go up and down the stairs at the same time because there is only one entry and exit point per platform. Consequently, there are no escalators or lifts, which makes it difficult for anyone with a baby, disability, etc, to gain access to the platforms. This puts many lives in danger if there was ever a need to evacuate the station. You would probably have an equal chance of survival if you decided to jump on the track rather than exit the station. There are more escape routes for prisoners in jails with maximum security than there are in this station. Secondly, the stupidity of allowing a concessions stand to be inside of this station is something that even a genius such as Einstein could not explain to you. It is even more stupid considering that there are both a Sainsbury’s Local and Co-op right outside of this horrible station. Surely they are better off destroying it and creating additional room for more barriers. Where are the commuters of London even going to line up to buy anything from this stand? It creates blockage. Thirdly, the amount of weekends that this station is closed you would think it is a GP. The only two lines that run through this station often undergo a lot of work. Fortunately, there are enough buses that frequently pass this station to not feel the absence of it. The station is so small that we could import advanced robots from Japan to operate it without any issues, especially when you consider that TFL staff are always striking nowadays. Stepney Green Station could be London’s first station to be controlled by robots. This would give the station some purpose of existing. Another important point to mention is that there are only two machines to top up your travel card or buy tickets from. You are better off using your contactless debit card, Apple Pay, or just bumping the journey altogether if you are passing through this station. We are almost in the year 2023 and there is a train station in London with only two top up machines! It seems like a joke to me. Additionally, there are many creeps lurking around outside of the station throughout the entire day, who will pounce for your money, possessions at any given moment, so beware. The atmosphere inside of the station is dreadful, largely due to the fact that it is still trapped in the era of the World War days. This includes the design, stairs, walls, discolouration, and flooring, which makes the station feel like a memorial bungalow once you go down them stairs. Train times are often incorrectly displayed and can be unreliable. Due to the dead nature of the station, staff never announce corrections to these errors. I strongly believe that with the rapid growth of the human population, Stepney Green Station can be sacrificed and turned into housing, student accommodation for QMUL students, or a luxury hotel in the nearby future. With this growing population becoming increasingly obese, they will require wider barriers, which they simply cannot provide because of the station size. It is literally pointless having this station, especially when you consider the points raised above. Also, Mile End Station and Whitechapel Station recently refurbished are both very nearby walking distance. However, if you are too lazy to walk, there are two buses 25, 205 with regular service throughout the day that pass by all three of these stations. Overall, I am 90% in favour of demolishing this rubbish station and 10% in favour of allowing robots to operate it with one human who is qualified to keep an eye on the robots and make sure that they are not misbehaving.
Good place near Queen Mary University. You will find a lot of students
Small station, staff is ok. I use the station occasionally. Haven't seen the ticket office open for a while. Maybe it is during peak times only. But there are 2 machines to top up oyster card or to buy a ticket. At the entrance is a small shop selling soft drinks and sweets.
A lot of people with addiction screaming just outside the station. Not safe and not controlled.
Staff here seem unhappy generally but are helpful when asked upon. Convenience store inside has a good selection of sweets and there are usually plenty of evening standards to grab - though it might be from yesterday lol. Close proximity to several good chicken shops, Stepney Friend Chicken probably being the best bang for buck
