A rare green space in Manchester and lovely space to enjoy the weather if it permits. They even host community events and I would highly recommend the dog show if you get the chance to go.
This park is a small peaceful oasis on the outskirts of Manchester City Centre. It's not exactly full of spectacular scenery but it's green space with trees and for the most part, peaceful. It's steeped in Manchester History what's left of it amongst the ever developing stream of skyscrapers, as the City expands. The place was a Churchyard with Church at one time and also a burial ground. The area surrounding Angel Meadow was a very grim slum area in times past and the old Victorian houses were decrepit and squalid. Lifespans were short and it has been described as 'The worst slum in England' during those times. There are over forty thousand bodies of the poor buried under what we see today as a beautiful and quite tranquil place. People sit on the lawned areas to rest, take lunch and to just relax, so don't let its grim past put you off enjoying Angel Meadow as it is today. There has been a problem with drug addicts and alcoholics but I think that problem has been resolved to a degree. It's only because of this that I've only given four stars.
Overall, It’s a nice park, the embankment surrounding the park is unkempt and I assume it has been left intentionally ’wild’ but it is unsightly now. It’s a nice little area to take your dog or go for a walk. My advice would be do not take your dog here if your dog isn’t comfortable with other dogs approaching them. It is also a great place for a picnic, for those who don’t mind being surrounded by begging and mischievous dogs trying to steal your sausages Dog-friendliness: Very dog friendly, dogs off lead, benches around so you can rest your legs whilst they run riotously around after each other
I like this park. It is overshadowed by the buildings around it. There is nothing for children to do. It is on the site of one of the worst slums in victorian Manchester and it keeps that vibe. It has atmosphere
Angel Meadow - St. Michael's Church once stood on the site Lowry several of his paintings. These two, St. Michael's Church and All Angels 1941 and also St. Michael's Church and All Angels Study 1933 looking up from Corporation St towards the entrance to the park at the junction of Aspin Lane and Angel St. St. Michael's Church was demolished in 1935 after Lowry had sketched the original for a later painting The Steps, Irk Place 1928, Britain at Play 1943 St. Michael's Church in the distance, Study for The Playground 1927 , View of a Town 1936 St. Michael's Church
Lovely little park. Was there in 2018, to take part in Manchester Walk It to spread Awareness about Crohn's Disease and Colitis as well as fundraise for Crohn's and Colitis UK.
Awesome nature
Nestled between some relatively new apartment blocks and the railway arches this is like a haven from the madness of the centre of the city... Busy with bathers and barbecueists in summer, and much quieter in autumn winter it's a very cool place to get that little bit closer to nature and take a breath...
Great place to visit in 4 seasons in a year . Every time I feel any changes in nature in this park .
Nice little green patch in the middle of manchester. Lots of dogs, and people making use if thw space for exercise, bbqs and playing wuth their kids. Open 24 hours a day although there is no lighting at all in parts so i would stay out of here after dark, it's still Manchester after all. No parking nearby so if you're not local its not worth the trip. Lots of little signs explaining the history of the spot too which is realky nice.
