I'm giving this a 3, due to the bad experience from the nurse I had. This is a very needed service, and they are all not that bad. With some government funding and an extra nurse, this could sort out some of the issues and wait times.nnI visited here due to having back issues that didn't warrant clogging up A&E, and I was unable to get into the GP.nnI politely stood at the reception desk as one lady was being seen. Two women were behind the counter, one serving and another faffing with a bag of something she had bought/was given. After the lady in front of me left, I still stood waiting just in case they were busy checking her in. It took them a long time to acknowledge me as they kept chatting to other people popping in about their weekend and about someone they knew antics. I felt this was quite rude, I popped to the desk two more times, once for an update as to how long the wait was and if they had any cups for the water machine. Every time, the older lady seemed to do nothing other than gossip, leaving the young lady doing all of the work.nnI was hoping to get some stronger medication than the over the counter medication I was using. I was unable to stand up straight. Walking was very difficult, and sitting was extremely painful.nnOn the website, it advertised they do x-rays, I had hoped to see if the disks in my back had collapsed further. I waited 3 and a half hours to be seen and was told they only do arms and legs on x-ray. They also didn't give me any medication to help with the pain or muscle spasm. I was told to continue with ibuprofen, which wasn't even touching the sides of the pain.nThey said I needed to see my GP, to which I said I had tried, but no appointments were available, which is why I attended there. I was told I just have to keep trying. I gave her a BIG thumbs up in my head for that comment!nnSo off I left after almost 4 hours in agony with no where further forward in my treatment.nnThe nurse I saw was not very friendly. She had a very stern bedside manner with no empathy and made me feel as though I was wasting her time. I was also made to walk the full length of the corridor in agony, and she huffed with her arms folded. That made me feel she was too busy, and I had kept her from progressing with her queue.nnAnother nurse I spoke to in the corridor gave me empathy when she saw me walking and seemed lovely. She had been treating a lady whom I had been talking to in the waiting area, and she said she was nice, so not all are grumpy like my nurse.nnIt would have been handy to have had a first line of defence triage to determine if it was worth people waiting for hours on end rather than automatically in a queue. Like they do if you go to A&E, they see you first to direct you to the right place , and if I'd have known they couldn't help me, I would have left straight away to go home and be more comfortable in my pain.nnThe waiting area does not have suitable chairs for people in pain. They are hard moulded plastic. To be fair, even if you didn't have a bad back, after hours of sitting in them, you'll end up with one or even a numb bottom!nnThere is a car park on site, but it is small, and as there are other services here, it is always full, so you might have to park across the street in ASDA.nnThe disabled access door was broken, the button doesn't work. Generally, the whole building the NHS part is in could do with a refurbishment. Very old and worn. This is a government funding issue, not the fault of the staff.nnIf you think you've broken an arm or leg, this seems to be the perfect drop-in rather than the issue I had. There was also a lady with a throat issue and another with something stuck in her ear.nMore complex issues, maybe just see GP or A&E.nnIf you have to attend with children, there is a library behind the waiting area to keep them entertained. Plenty of toilet facilities.
Visited at George's centre on bank holiday Monday, had to wait 5 and a bit hours to be seen. I was waiting to see the 'wellness' nurse Sam. There was 5 people in front of me, yet the nurse barely came out of her room, she seemed to just be sat about doing nothing. Every time we asked at reception, they would speak to her at her room, where she was clearly just sat there, then went on her lunch and we heard a comment about how she'd been on her lunch for way longer then she should of been, she had no care for how long people were waiting or how unwell people waiting to see her were feeling. The person that went in before me, was in with her for 2 minutes, then she just sat around in her room for another 25 minutes. At one point we were told that there was just 1 person in front, it still took 50 minutes before I was seen. Then when I finally saw her, she had no care in the world for how unwell I was, just told me it was viral and there was nothing at all she could do or prescribe to help. I can't get over her lack of care for patients at all, no urgency to get people seen, then not doing anything to actually help when they've waited 5+ hours to see you! I'd also visited in chemist, just before I went to St George's, who had said I needed antibiotics for a chest infection but they weren't allowed to prescribe them. Yet nurse Sam wouldn't give me a single thing to help when I had been incredibly unwell for 6 days!nUPDATE- been to my own gp this morning- who instantly told me I had a chest infection and needed antibiotics!!
I don’t blame the rating to be this low the receptionists are rude and don’t pay attention we went to get seen and not only she ignored the correct pronunciation of my parters name but also accused us of lying besides that she was very rude she constantly saying the wrong name and she embarrassed us in front of 20 people. She had attitude with us the whole time we where there and got told we were not going to be seen and today I have called them more than 11 times and every time the phone rang for three minutes and hang up the phone every time without even answering it. It’s a shame for the nurses as they are really really nice people they do their job amazingly however the receptionists are rubbish. They need to seriously work on their attitude and how they speak to patients.
I have had a need to visit 4 times in 3 years. Every time the centre is severely understaffed with virtually no clinical staff. Tonight I arrived 7.40pm with suspected fracture. Receptionist told me x-rays finish at 8pm and no space to see me as a backlog of patients why x-rays close 8pm when centre advertised as open till 11pm and no mention of early x-ray closure on website?. If info had said x-ray closed early I would not have driven an hour to the centre and looked for other options e.g. gone to A&E in town instead but 111 and my GP said go to Middleton walk-in so I followed their advice. Obviously info not provided to GPs or 111 on what level of service Middleton walk in can actually offer in reality. Only 1 nurse working tonight and she completely overwhelmed. They were turning people away at 8pm 3 hours before centre closes as that 1 nurse was trying to do everything on her own consultations, set broken bones in casts, treat Respiratory emergencies, treat wounds and burns.. just everything. Another patient arrived whilst I was in reception deciding what to do and she was turned away too. She complained to reception this was 2nd time in 2 days she was turned away and she had obvious broken leg! Of the 4 times I visited only once did they have more than 1 clinical staff working then only 2 nurses and always 3 receptionists! Presumably to just turn people away! Never been a doctor there in my 4 visits yet they tell me there should be. So why do Leeds GPs turn away patients at their surgery with fractured bones and tell them to go to Middleton Walk In Centre?. It's a joke!!! Especially since fractured or broken bones need to be treated within 3 days per NHS guidelines for best outcome. Sorry but this is the most negative I have felt about NHS facility in West Yorkshire. It's virtually useless as I have yet to see it hit any of it's objectives of wait times or range of facilities that should be available. I raised a complaint tonight via customer feedback politely yet staff seemed taken aback I would want to raise anything as it was a normal night for them. I'm not expecting anything to change as hasn't in last 4 years in my patient experience. Very poor patient experience. Needs hugely more clinical staff and longer x-ray capacity with associated radiology shift cover. And GPs should not be sending patients there unless very very minor issue that can wait 6 hours to be seen. Avoid.
I was quite worried about visiting & on a Sunday morning due to the reviews but I had a great experience this morning with a potential broken thumb. Staff were caring & helpful and I got an X-ray within about 45mins & then results discussed & treatment done in another 30mins. They made a follow up appointment for me at LGI for onward treatment. Couldn’t fault it, thank you!
