"St Georges Leisure Centre is situated on The Highway in the heart of Wapping. The centre has been part of the borough's history for many years and has recently seen a refurbishment with the addition of a new studio space with separate entrance area. Also available are 2 pools, the largest of which is regularly used by local swimming clubs and was used by the Russian Federations Synchronised Swimming team, brand new diving boards and a gym which operates women only sessions. These redevelopments will help to provide residents with year round activities for all ages and abilities across the sport and health and wellbeing spectrum."

Okay 2 stars but I don't dislike it so much yet I don't like it either. I like it because the gym is small and quiet and I can workout in peace but I don't like that it took them 1,5 month to give me a membership card I had to carry the registration receipt every single time and the reception there with very few exceptions are royal zero f*** givers. Better Gym needs to work on the customer service because I was in another Better Gym before as well and reception in general was awful. Apart from a very polite and helpful lady that I of course didn't see many times.
My son takes swimming lessons there once a week. The small pool is warm and the water looks clean, the staff is helpful and polite and the teacher is great. Clean and spacious changing room with lockers/pegs and benches available. Haven't visited the gym yet.
We really miss this pool it’s great. Seriously needs to reopen soon what are members paying for? The other local pools are not a great alternative at the moment- Mile End is small and overcrowded. York Hall is out of use for several months due to structural work. London fields lido still has only outdoor changing- no indoor changing or hairdryers so not suitable before work or for those who need a hairdryer and even if you can manage without that it’s difficult to book a slot peak time.. London aquatics centre has cleared the bulk of the daytime schedule in the 50m competition pool to run aqua splash and is now not open till late at weekends as it was pre-pandemic. Appreciate times are difficult but the community needs this place sorely and it should be a priority to get this place up and running again.
Tuesday 17th May, this is the sixth alternative BETTER swimming pool I visited during the closure of the London Aquatic Centrefor 2016 European Aquatics Championship. Non-functioning showers in the male changing/unisex changing area is a HUGE turn off. The staff were friendly and the pool is really clean and well managed. The pool is 30perhaps 33? metres in length, with the shallow end at 1 metre and deep end at 4 metre. It's not very busy which is really good for someone who enjoys a proper swim without interruption. However, the management really ought to take steps fixing the showers. None of them were functioning and other fellow swimmers told me that it happens rather frequently there. It's a real shame, as the pool is great to swim in. I ended up just drying myself up after having no luck rinsing myself.
I had a horrible accident and needed a pool to use after. I had never been before, having been a member of a private gym - and was extremely nervous. They were so friendly and kind. I still go. Lovely big pool. Friendly staff. Cleaner than most public pools that have the same use. Highly recommend it.
I only use the swimming pool and it's a great 33m indoor pool, 1m on one side, 1.8m in the middle and 3.8m on the other side. Morning hours are not too busy and the lanes are well organised for slow, medium and fast swimmers. The female changing room is very sad though: cold, dirty, the showers are leaking, the 2 hairdryers are broken. It's a pity because it would be a nice pool but with this poor changing room it's not a great experience.
I went here as close to my new job. Swimming pool was of great size but really cold. The ladies changing area was filthy thank God for my pool shoes and the cheek to take 20p for the locker! Showers were freezing and leaking. 2 small lanes dedicated to swimmers which were crowded. I didn't enjoy my swim at all and its completely put me off going again. I use lots of Better leisure centres around the country and I will be cancelling my membership and paying for private - definitely worth the additional expense.
I am a regular swimmer 4-5 times a week at the St Georges for over 15 years now as it is the most convenient one for me in the area as I work nearby. Unfortunately, there is no improvements, if not getting worse! Starting from the entrance gate, despite recently installed card-operated entry system, members still have to present their members' cards at the reception to gain entry, what's the point? At peak hours 5-6pm, this often leads to a very long queue just to get into the pool as there is always only one staff member working at the reception. This is due to non-members enquiry or paying at the reception, significantly delaying members from gaining entry to the pool. The men's changing room is simply disgusting and filthy to say the least! Floors are dirty often seen with a puddle of stagnant/filthy water in one of the middle changing rooms. Ceilings are falling apart. The toilet is simply foul and the shower room floor infested with tiny little worms oozing out from gaps between floor tiles!! Despite having 6 shower points in the shower room, only two works properly. Due to the poor positioning of the shower points, whereby 4 of them are too close together, this means that at any one time, only 4 people can comfortably shower at the same time, two showers are made redundant as the space available is simply too tight without having to touch each other whilst showering! The smell of urine stench from the men's changing room drains into the main swimming pool area for all swimmers to enjoy and breath in whilst swimming! Simply nauseating! The swimming guards are friendly but rarely regulates the swim speed in the 3 dedicated lane swimming, allowing slow swimmers to obstruct fast swimmers in a the fast lane. This can be dangerous especially when the pool is crowded. What's the point of putting up speed-specific lanes when slow swimmer can swim in fast lane?
2 large pools and a gym. Best time to use the large pool is from around 9am to 10am. Friendly staff and good facilities all at a very reasonable price. Parts of it could definitely be upgraded, but in terms of value for money definitely worth a visit.
Always something new that's wrong with this place : If it's not the staff refusing to let you in after you pre-booked, there's a fly infestation in the showers. This morning the ladies changing rooms were closed not that they would let you know when paying or put up a sign - thanks to other people visiting we could together figure out we could use the family changing room. Which is in plain view from the pool and full of male staff - again, you learn this quick enough. When I asked to use a hairdryer I was told to use a handdryer. No explanation why the ladies changing room was closed - but I really really hope its for a refurbishment. Or pest control.
