"Visit the Spread Eagle at Gailey, one of the best family pubs in Stafford! We’ve got enough space for all your family and friends. Eat al fresco on our giant patio or enjoy our sprawling beer garden. The kids will go crazy for the amazing children’s play area. Food is available every day and our menu is a real crowd-pleaser. The little ones can order off our children’s menu and the adults can choose from a whole host of classic options. We serve a daily carvery, light options, burgers, traditional pub main meals, and British food with a modern twist. All of which goes down a treat with Marston’s cask ales, a pint of cider, or a glass of wine. No need to book, just turn up."

Very large and nice pub/restaurant with quality food. We had a good couple time with the day specials including the nice deserts. I went for the salmon and and fishy starters. The espresso was funny because it was served in huge cup but all the rest was impeccable and very well served. We will surely come back on the next occasion in town.
A great place for pub food. Very friendly helpful staff and a good vegan menu in addition to the traditional menu. A good breakfast as well.
I haven't been here for over 5 years when it was usually extremely busy, the meals tasty and the cake display full. We booked a last-minute table for 2, online, no problem when we were 30 minutes away. Arrived and was shown to a table by a pleasant guy. I couldn't believe how quiet it was at 6 pm on a Saturday! My partner talked me into having the carvery instead of Hunter's Chicken, my usual go-to dish. The bar staff were lovely, and the carvery chef was lovely and pleasant, topping up the pots as I waited for the return of my partner. We both had turkey and beef. The beef was tough. The mashed potatoes tasted like they were powdered mash; the mashed carrot and swede were flavourless, watery and seemed mostly carrots. The mixed greens, leeks, onions and cheese sauce was dry greens and leek when I took some. I hadn't realised until I got to the table that it was missing the sauce. It registered after I saw the chef with a carton of pre-made cheese sauce to cut open and pour over the greens. The other peas and carrots were too soft and my partner likes his soft. The stuffing chunks were dry and hard. The gravy, brown-coloured liquid was flavourless. My partner LOVES a carvery and for him to leave half a plate, speaks volumes. The cake display was extremely disappointing. Half a coffee walnut cake?, a chocolate fudge cake and one other. Obviously the economy plays a factor at the moment but cut down on quantities made not the quality. For the lack of custom at that time, the glass washer should have had time to dry the base of the glasses with a tea towel before removing from the washer. The glasses had stale water gathering up on the bases which can be off-putting. I might try again but for a menu meal next time. Usually experiencing one bad meal I never return but I will give the Spread Eagle the benefit of the doubt due to prior visits.
We have visited several times this year and thought another visit today would be a nice way to end what has been a long week. A good atmosphere, nice warm weather. We were served with a smile by Nathan which was free as it did not appear on the bill! and were lucky there was no queue for the Carvery. Plenty of choice all nicely cooked and hot. So what's not to like. Nathan came across to ask if everything was OK and we enjoyed it again sufficiently for me to bother to review.
We went out spur of the moment an we were so glad we chose here to have food. The food was absolutely delicious. The staff were so polite and friendly. Service was fast and efficient. The staff accommodated us with take away boxes as I personally couldn't eat all of my meal. We also took away desert which I can honestly say the deserts were 10 out of 10. Probably some of the best deserts we have ever tasted . We will definitely be back in the near future an we will also be recommending to friends an family x thank you x
Great family pub. Tasty meals. Great choice on children's and adult menu. Not much choice if you are vegan. However, under the 5s menu I found, it was great if you had a child under the age of 2. Portions are small. Example chicken dippers, you only get 3! My child, who is 2, managed to eat a main off the 5 and overs menu. 6 dippers. I think they might need to rethink the portions a bit
Overall it was a great experience. I booked 4 nights from Wed-Sun, and given how ‘cheap’ the price was, I was genuinely astounded to see the quality of the room. The layout of the room is perfect and it is immaculately clean, and has everything you could need. The only issue I had was my card to get into the hotel didn’t work on the second evening, but one of the members of staff from the pub came and got that sorted quickly for me so that was good service. I will definitely recommend Marston Inns based on this experience and I’ll be back in the future myself. Amazing.
Went in a party of eight to celebrate a birthday. Some had meal from menu others had carvery. All food excellent, choice of three meats or vegetarian sausages & good choice of veg at carvery counter. Lovely sweets with good choice. Very pleasant staff. A good evening was had by all.
This is a roadside Inn at a busy junction. There is adequate parking. The food is well cooked and very flavourful. The choice is the usual sort of pub range. There is a carvery in addition to the menu choices. The pub was busy when we visited, but service was fast. The pub is clean and the toilets are fine.
Having been here multiple times before - the past 2 times have been awful. This time it was a special occasion - the staff were brilliant but not the food. The carvery was very poor. The beef was so tough even the sharpest of knives couldn't cut it. Poor selection of cold vegetables. Gravy was good! The "Mega" mixed grill was a special meal - which was equally awful. The steak - you could not cut with a sharp knife - and if you dared to chew a piece you were chewing for a while. The pork was like cardboard, the gammon was tastless. The only good point were the eggs and chips. We did raise this with the waitress - who just said "Sorry". Pity as it was a birthday surprise. Won't be going again.
