A small theater with an amazing atmosphere. The seats are arranged in a semicircle around the stage, which makes for a very unique experience, as all that is happening is only a couple of meters away from the audience. Went in to see “Dorian”, and it was nothing short of incredible. Also, the Tobey Maguire decorations all over the place added to the atmosphere. The bathrooms in the theater are All Gender, which is amazing
I had booked tickets for a show whilst travelling in Australia, and returned to the UK to wonder why on earth I had booked for a weeknight when we don't even live in London! I offered the second ticket to a few friends, none of whom were available that night, and finally, on the actual afternoon of the performance, I popped in to the theatre to offer them the ticket back as I saw that the performance was sold out. I hadn't expected a refund at such short notice, but an hour later I returned to be told that they had, in fact, resold my ticket and my card was refunded! The theatre has a great atmosphere, both front of house and in the intimate performance space. A bar sells a good selection of beer, cider and possibly other beverages, along with snacks and, of course, programmes! I found a chair and chatted with a fellow member of the audience, prior to the show starting, and we were allowed to take our drinks into the auditorium, which was nice as I didn't have to rush my cider. The show I saw, Cable St, was wonderful! Truly well researched, written and performed! I was so impressed with all of the cast, and will definitely look for productions at this theatre in the future, whenever I am in London. I highly recommend the Southwark Playhouse Borough to anyone with an interest in high quality theatre in an atmospheric space.
Fantastic local theatre. Good seats abd right on the stage abd inbrhe performance saw Kand of the Free which was extraordinary.
Drinks are very reasonable and stranger sings play was phenomenal. The set piece is stunning for an underground production and the musical is high-energy and the cast is extremely talented. Great for a family or couple night out
Great theatre especially with Mercato across the street for pre or post food. The theatres aren't very big with metal fold down seats in the Large and cushioned bench seating in the Little. Both are only a few steps of seating. Much more intimate. Lots of fresh new shows. Photos are from 2 shows in the Little.
Very good theatre just around the corner from Elephant and Castle Underground Station. We attended a show called Manic Street Creature which was excellent it runs until 11 November 2023. Very friendly and helpful staff. Decent bar providing a wide range of drinks which can be taken into the auditorium.
Nice little theatre that does great discounts for previews of their shows. For Stranger Sings they didn't have any hard copy programs or other merchandise for sale which was a bit disappointing, but the show was good and it is easy to reach by public transport.
Great theatre for children. We went to the Dinosaur Show and fully enjoyed it. There is a bar for drinks and snacks on site. Photos are allowed during the show but no flash. Tickets can be booked from their website. The nearest train station is elephant and Castle. Free parking is available nearby Southbank university but will require congestion charge. Highly recommend to all.
I had a very interesting theater experience at Southwark playhouse. We watched 'The Prince' at the behest of my daughter. It is a more personal experience without the traditional stage. Everything happens right in front of you. I liked the casual atmosphere and the bar. You can get your drinks along with you which is pretty cool.
Every time I go to 'fringe theatre' I feel so energised. Love this theatre. Not been for a while, but tonight's offering Forever land by Emma Hemingford was fabulous. Thought provoking script, provocative direction and compelling actors. Must come more often!!!
