There's a very old but true saying 'Never judge a book by it's cover' and this hotel is certainly a classic example of that. A work colleague booked this hotel for us to stay at (3 Jan 18) and when we pulled up outside my jar hit the floor as I thought I was at the Crossroads hotel, remember that famous 80's TV show? I immediately thought this was going to be a night to forget... The exterior looks tired and dated.. 80's style so I naturally thought the interior/rooms/bar/food etc would be the same. However...... when we walked through the front doors I was taking back at how nice the place actually was, instead of being met by Benny from Crossroads we were in fact greeted by a chap called Tony who was the manager. Let me tell you that Tony is a real character, He immediately made us feel very welcome and had us in stitches as he booked us in. He really went above and beyond for us and once we got our bags in the room we went straight down to the bar to have a drink & he came over to join us & we all had a really good laugh. All the staff were lovely, very warm, friendly & very welcoming which really made the stay an absolute pleasure. The room was surprisingly big, very homely and immaculately clean (something I really didn't expect when I was stood outside) After a few drinks which were very reasonably priced we ordered a meal... again something I really didn't expect to do upon arrival as I am very skeptical about where I eat. But boy oh boy..... let me tell you this.... The food was outstanding!!!!! & I revert to that saying...'Never judge a book by it's cover' The restaurant was immaculate, very traditional and beautifully set out, I ordered a steak with peppered sauce & all the trimmings & hand on heart it was one of the finest steaks I have ever tasted... anywhere in the world!!! & I have eaten some fine steaks in some fine places so believe me I don't say that lightly. The food was simply outstanding. Presentation, quality and quantity = 10/10. I almost forgot to mention that the breakfast was delicious to. During conversation the manager explained the hotel was under new management and big things were planned for the year ahead with a big refurb etc. From the outside you can clearly see the place needs updating but please don't let that put you off because inside although it also needs updating it's immaculately clean, very comfortable and homely & like I've said most surprisingly of all the food is outstanding. I wish Tony and his team all the best for the year ahead & if our stay was anything to go by I have no doubt great things lie ahead for this hotel. I think the previous owners had lost interest in the place hence it's dated appearance but I have no doubt the new owners will make a big success of there new venture. So my friends, all in all I have no hesitation is highly recommending this hotel to anybody. It's great value for money and the food is spot on. It's an easy 10/10 from me. To Tony and his team... Good luck for the year ahead and my best wishes are with you's all, be assured I'll be back ;-)

Cheap but not cheerful. The whole hotel needs a massive update. Was very disappointed to only find out the pool was closed for repairs after I arrived. Either the kettle in the room or the water supply needed looking at as hot drinks stank of chemicals and were undrinkable. The hotel is a sprawling mess. Some of the group had to walk huge distances to get to their rooms.

Comfortable and good value for a stop-over. Would consider for a conference or large group event

Great value. Exterior is dated but friendly staff, tasty food and nice clean rooms. Order breakfast the day before for a cheaper price. Shame the pool was closed. Would recommend.

Not the most attractive from the outside - pretty much a cabin on stilts. Had two family rooms of good size. Carpet was a bit dirty and kinda reminded me of being in uni halls. Sink plug didn't work so had to use the bath tub. Overall, my stay was okay but it was only the weekend and probably wouldn't have stayed much longer.
