About

Solway Aviation Museum is home to a collection of aircraft, aviation artifacts and displays located at Carlisle Lake District Airport.

Story

Solway Aviation Museum is home to a collection of aircraft, aviation artifacts and displays reflecting Britain’s position as a world leader in aircraft design and innovation at the dawn of the jet age.

The museum's primary objective is the preservation of our aviation heritage, its display and interpretation. Take a nostalgic journey back to Wartime Cumberland and the men and women of the RAF who served in WWII.

The museum is run by a dedicated team of volunteers who give up their free time to painstakingly restore many of the exhibits. Through their love and knowledge they are preserving aviation history for generations to come.

Lovely place to visit. Staff all really friendly and helpful. You can get up and close with the aircraft and even go in quite a few (including the Vulcan). Well worth a visit and the £6.00 entrance fee for an adult.

Amazing slice of aviation history, worth it for visiting the Vulcan alone but so much more.on offer with both a vampire and phantom as well as a wide variety of planes and aviation/space memorabilia. Staff are ever so friendly and accommodating. Truly a treasure of the area.

An excellent museum with friendly staff and a good collection of exhibits. The star exhibit for me was the Avro Vulcan. Cockpit tours take place at regular intervals. The gift shop has a good selection of model aircraft and aviation related items. Well worth a visit....
