I took my 2 children under 11 and we spent a great afternoon looking around the museum. The displays and exhibitions are very well done, lots of interesting information and artefacts to learn about. We loved the interactive set ups and they really immersed themselves in the experience. We'll come again soon!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Nice place to visit. Not massive but full of information and exhibits. Took just under 2 hours to look properly. Some interactive stuff if you have small children. Cafe on site plus you can visit the other museum free. Free street parking outside.
Really impressed by this place. Simple and fairly small but loads of content delivered through a variety of mediums. Some interactive displays. A clear effort has been made to make the museum engaging for children. Currently a brilliant mosaic version of the Bayeux Tapestry on display. Very much enjoyed our visit.
A shorter summary of the lives of soldiers of oxfordshire during prodomiantly the post-1900s conflicts. Whilst some of this information was very informative, the museum lacks information of the lives of soldiers pre-1900. This was unusual as medals on display in one area of the museum, particularly those of the 43rd Regiment were from the 1808-1814 Peninsular War, but there was no information on the events during this campaign. Information pre-1900 was shown as matter-of-fact points on a map with dates without the context which could have been interesting as the 52nd and 43rd served at Bunker Hill, and Waterloo among others and had major roles in conflicts up to 1900 which lack any representation. The Queen's Own Oxfordshire Hussars was likewise used as a tool to introduce Churchill's war-time role rather than also informing people about the wider role of the QOOHs. The Civil War, a major part in Oxford's history, is also not mentioned. The information to search for soldiers was interesting however there was no clear information on how to add to this if people knew about the experiences some went through and where they served as a commemoration.
Outstanding. More people should know about this excellent museum.Visited onWeekdayWait time1 hr+Reservation recommendedNo
Took my dad for his birthday treat! It was amazing! The lady at the desk was very helpful and the museum was laid out so well. We came for the World War 1 exhibition that was displayed for a few months. I was blown away by the depth of knowledge and insight that it showed. I really loved that it focused on local people and their stories. Really was worth the trip and I would recommend to anyone who loves war history and local documentation.
Great friendly welcome, informative displays especially timeline and a special Bond exhibition with lots of little known facts especially about Ian Fleming. Comprehensive and related shop items with realistic prices.
Really interesting and we'll laid out educational venue. With enough engagement displays for younger visitors to also captivate their attention. Nice gardens and well stocked coffee shop on site too. Well worth a visit..please also donate on entry.
It's odd that the main museum is free but this extra war themed museum requires an entrance fee. Obviously I can understand the logic but it seems ironic all the same given there is so much to see for free. That said, I enjoy spending time at the museum despite much of the display remaining static. It's quiet and full of detailed activities for children as well as an opportunity to see the gear our brave troops lug into battle.
Really well laid out and detailed museum full of fascinating stories of the local heroes.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
