Lovely little pub, extensive menu, polite welcoming staff, food portions are very generous & the food we were served was lovely although the beef on the carvery was a little tough, my steak was cooked to perfection, will certainly be returning
havent been here for several years dont know why but food was fantastic from home made soups to mains and desserts stay were really good nothing too much trouble for them . would recommed this to anyone. the soup was leek and potatoe i personnaly dont care for soup but tried husbands and was really good i would order it myself as that good in future.
My wife and I visited The Ship Inn today with our little boy and baby. It has been a couple of years since we last came and it has changed ownership since then. I wasn't sure what to expect as I remember how the quality of food used to be really good. However, we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious and I just love how they've kept some of the meals that used to be on the menu. I used to love the broccoli, potato and cheese bake and was so happy to see it still on the menu. My son had a mini pie and it wasn't until it came out that I remembered how they used to do their pies with suet...the have kept it like this. My son ate the lot and really enjoyed it. He's asked several times already, when we can go back for more pie. Staff were really friendly too. Had a chat with the owner and he seemed really friendly and I do hope it works out for him. He did seem a bit rushed off his feet but I understand that at times like these, it's not always sustainable to have table staff in the event it is a quiet day. Really good experience and really good HOMEMADE pub grub. Will definitely be returning.
Place needs a few quid spending on it but the food is good. Nice carvery and a varied menu that's reasonably priced. Staff are lovely too Definitely going back x
We called in today for lunch and so glad we did. It’s a lovely place and the owners are so welcoming and friendly. We ordered from the main menu. The portion sizes are huge and tasted amazing. Will be returning soon. Thank you guys.
The pub looked lovely all trimmed up for Christmas. The food was poor, burnt nachos with the dips missing and the main course came with hardly cooked garlic bread. We let the proprietors know who returned to us the same burnt nachos but with dips and microwaved anemic looking garlic bread. The campsite was busy and overlooked, communication and concern non existent. The water was turned off after we arrived, leaving us short of water. Yes it was freezing but wouldn't it have been courteous to let us know? We booked to stay but apparently shouldn't have, confusing! Thanks for the stay but we'll give it a miss next time.
Easy Five Stars From Us. Hubby and I came for our first time and had a great experience and delish food. I was craving Homemade Fish and Chips so I ordered that and it tasted phenomenal - and I don't normally say that about fish and chips so that's saying a lot. I got the small order and it was still a hefty size, enough I couldn't finish sadly. My hubby ordered the Homemade Cauliflower Cheese & Stilton Bake with Creamy Mash and Veg and oh my god that was delicious too! You can tell the food is house made and done right, the prices were good and the menu extensive. The staff were sooo lovely - I'm think it's family run and it may have even been the family serving us. They were layed back, helpful and kind and you could tell that they put love into their business. Right as you walk through the door there is a sign that states the name of the owners/staff welcoming you warmly inside. It was such a nice meal and I wanted to make a point to write a good review in hopes that people will choose this place to eat and have a great experience like we did!
Slightly tired interior.. but like a pub used to be. Friendly attentive helpful staff. Nice food. Good carvery felt a bit strange as it is plated for you by the staff - veg ,potatoes etc.. Not a self serve of accompanying items to the meat. But , reasonably priced ,well cooked. Variety of beers, wines& ciders. Plenty of seating ,even down to a small dining area in the rear of the pub. Outside area will be nice in the summer/ warmer months. Camping with elec. Hookup available at rear see inside for prices/ availability. Good varied menu ,with reasonable prices in addition to carvery option. Cosy interior , with a nautical theme.
Management very poor. Roast potatoes were black. Broccoli was like soup on my plate. The Yorkshire puddings was greasy. The drinks was flat and waiting at bar for the “manager” to walk around bar on his phone after engaging with us making us wait for 15 minutes to make 4 drinks of coke and lemonade. Then when confronted with a complaint, he shrugged it of and walked away.
I visited this pub with family this afternoon and walked away very disappointed with our experience. We understand the pub had some difficulties with gas problems and they did let us know this whilst we continued to order being told they would let us know when they were up and running again. 30 minutes later nobody had mentioned anything so we had to question whether the problem had been resolved and our order was being cooked. The food then proceeded to take another 45 minutes to come out all lukewarm and extremely overdone. After waiting 1 hour and 15 minutes my only suggestion would be it had been sat waiting for a long time on their pass. The management did ask us if everything was okay and we mentioned the burger ordered was overdone as it was burnt on the edges, the manager did not take this very well, he did offer to cook a new one however after waiting that long that didn’t seem the best option at all, he then asked the chef if he had overcooked it who continued to say no obviously, then the manager came over to us to inform us of this and actually took the burger patty off the plate and proceeded to man handle the burger and tell us it was perfect and as it should be which he then obviously took away as he had touched the whole thing. I would like to say learn some customer service as if you ask someone if everything is okay and they have constructive feedback you should take this onboard and do something about this instead of just disagree. Clearly she had eaten a couple of bites of the burger and left 80% of the rest on her plate yet we were still charged in full and we’re not apologised to at all. We spent almost £100 in here as a family of 5 and we’re disgusted. This is coming from a worker within the hospitality industry and the service today was below par and would be unacceptable in any other establishment.
