Story

Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is one of only four dedicated children’s hospital trusts in the UK and provides integrated healthcare for children and young people, including community and mental health care as well as acute and specialist services.

We see children from 0-16 in most cases and in some cases up to 18.

We provide a full range of services for residents of Sheffield and South Yorkshire as well as specialised services for patients from further afield.

The Children's Hospital Charity exists to make an extraordinary hospital even better.

We keep our specialist services special; providing the best equipment your money can buy, opening new facilities and funding vital research to change lives tomorrow.

We make the clinical more comfortable; transforming the hospital space and adding the little touches that make a big difference to families.

Together with all our supporters and staff, we do it for the kids.

My son had an operation in this hospital. They stitched up his upper lip. The doctors are excellent, the care and food are excellent. The only thing was that we had to wait a very long time from 11 pm to 4 am we waited for the child to be put in the ward. In general, the doctors' attitude towards patients is excellent inside the operating room.
My son is having a operation here. Very good hospital. One of the greeters 'Chrissy' went above and beyond for us. Thank you. So we've just spent four, days here on ward 1. Thank you to the guy who took my son down to theatre and calmed me after I struggled to keep it together. You made the four hour wait in surgery less stressful. I remembered your kind words and it made a difference. Cannot fault this hospital. My son doesn't want to leave...! He loves the playroom. He was never bored. Staff/volunteers go above and beyond to keep kids happy. Thank you to the people like the volunteer Mel who was in the playroom. We stayed in one of the bays and the pull down bed for me was surprisingly comfy. The room is spotless. Lots of space. Plenty of storage. I saw another review critizing parent meals. Obviously if you're not a nursing mother you don't get meals provided. Same at every hospital I've been in. But there is a wonderful charity who have stocked up the freezer in the parents room. All they suggest is a voluntary donation of a pound. There are also food places on site and a co-op at the bottom of the street. Thank you all staff. My son received compassion and kindness. You made what I expected to be a tough stay after his kidney removal, very straightforward and stressfree. The only niggle was whilst in theatre, the system was to call us on our mobiles and I lost signal downstairs. I had to go back and sit in recovery area just in case..... But that was a tiny tiny niggle. I think the pagers would have probably worked better. Oh and thank you to the therapy dog who my son enjoyed the company of. Kiera I believe! That was a nice surprise..
My wife and I have been well and truly fobbed off by Sheffield Children's Hospital. Our son has had eating difficulties from weaning until now 23 months old and they don't want to know about it. Both Speech and Language and Gastro Enterology have discharged us with a simple phone call or 2 after giving a bunch pre-fabricated advice that bore no relevance to a 1 year old. After over a year waiting for calls and follow-ups, they performed an allergy test and probably spent around 5 minutes on the phone - that's all we're worth. They showed zero empathy to what it feels like as a parent of a child that NEVER wants to eat. The mental strain and anguish for such parents is immense.
Based on my last 4 weeks experience. My daughter has been losing consciousness on a daily basis and up 5 times a day. She has racing heart and palpitation before an episode. She has rolled eyes, flickering eyes and eyelids and sometimes head and arms jerk during an episode. She has no memory of the episode and fatigue for an hour + after. This happens any time of day in any place. She's been taken to hospital by ambulance and has to be put in the recovery position at times The hospital diagnosis is - We dont think its owt serious go home and if it happens again judge it yourself if you think it's serious or not. My daughter can have a eeg but it's 2 month away. What a joke. The staff I've dealt with should be ashamed if they think someone passing out up to 5 times a day on a daily basis isn't serious. Talk about getting a degree out of a cornflakes box
Apart from medicines, you can also get great meal here. My son and I enjoyed hot meal from the children hospital restaurant. In patients customers can also get 20% discount. I love it because they always have a variety of cold and hot meals. Drinks are also available. If you eat halal, please ask before you buy as they sell pork as well. In short, it's a great place and they offer nice meal
Out if 3 hospitals we are been seen at this has been the best by far. Everyone goes out of their way to make sure patients and parents are reassured and feel comfortable throughout. My daughter is nervous for her procedure but the staff have already put plans in place to make sure she is as happy and comfortable as possible on the day. Very grateful to have such hospitals for our children
Hospital staff are fantastic and have looked after my daughter many times. My only issue is parking. My dad normally drops us off outside the main entrance then goes but hes just received a £100 parking fine claiming he parked at the main doors for half an hour in JANUARY but only just got the fine through. He didnt park there he went as always. Just be careful
My child was going to be out of school over lunch so we took her to the hospital cantean. They had her favourite, sausage roll and some chips. I had a couple of chips and the gravy is absolute beautiful!
Absolutely brilliant, I couldn't fault them at all, had to bring my son on the evening of the 11th January, the staff and Doctor were wonderful, my son is traumatised by needles due to being in hospital previously and the staff were able to reassure him. I would not take my children elsewhere even if I have to travel 15 miles it's worth it. Thank you
I took my 7 yr old for her ear infection. As there were many cases of measles , the staff didn't want her to have to be exposed, so they arranged a later appointment at fairlawn. I appreciate the way they are concerned for little ones.
